Chicago’s own Post Animal are on the verge of wrapping up their 2022 headline tour in support of their new album Love Gibberish, and to help build up to the closing of the tour with a homecoming show in Chicago, the boys got on the phone with me to talk about playing their new material on tour, what city’s fans have stood out, and what comes next.

Check out our latest interview with Post Animal below.

Tickets are still available for Post Animal’s June 10 show at Metro here: metrochicago.com/event/post-animal-2/

OO: Loving the new album, Love Gibberish. What has it been like touring the new album?

PA: It’s been fun. We’ve been enjoying playing these new songs. We didn’t get to do the full tour for our last record, so this is our first time having a whole new body of work to play live since our release of When I Think of You In a Castle years ago. So it’s cool to have a bunch of new material in the set.

How are fans reacting to the new material?

GREAT! They’re just loving the new songs. They’re even singing some of the words. They’re jumping up and down, so they seem to be enjoying the shows.

I haven’t seen you guys in a while, so I’m still excited to finally hear “Safe or Not,” myself.

Oh yeah!

I’ve been waiting since then. Have there been any songs from the new album that have stood out as new fan favorites in your live set?

I think people are really excited to hear our song “Puppy Dog,” when it starts. People are enjoying that. We’ve been playing that one a lot of the nights out here and it’s been great. Also, “When You Walk Towards Me” has been a really fun one to play. People are really grooving with it.

I’ve become a big fan of “No More Sports,” and I really dig the second half “Infinite Zone,” have those two found themselves on your setlists?

Yeah, both. We do both. Very fun. Very high energy, and lots of riffs. It’s really fun. Those two are fun.

Has there been anything that has stood out from being out on this tour? Has any particular crowd that you’d like to give a shout-out to?

Columbus, Ohio. They’re always the best. Shout outs Columbus.

They just always show up, and they really showed up this time. I think we’ve had lots of good shows there.

Has there been any inspiration drawn from being on tour? Have you guys been writing?

Yeah, we’ll mess around during soundcheck and there have been a few ideas. Probably have to tease them out a little bit more when we get home with all of our stuff. But yeah we play a little bit.

We’ve been inspired by the other band that we’ve been playing with, Stuyedeyed

Can you share more about that?

They’re just a really good band. Really good vibes band, really cool guys. Really cool style. So it’s all fun to be involved with.

Do you guys have anything special, anything different planned for your homecoming show at the iconic Metro?

We definitely do. We have some visuals specific to the Metro show that we’re pretty excited to unveil. It’s with some collaborators that we’re working with. And, special guests hopefully. It’s going to be extra wild, I’m sure. It’ll be a great time.

After this tour, what happens next for Post Animal?

We’ll see what comes down the pipeline. We’re probably make some more music and…. yeah, it’s TBD.
