Album Review – Our Top 5 Tracks on ZelooperZ – ‘Microphone Fiend’

Detroit based artist and Bruiser Brigade legend ZelooperZ has dropped a 16 track project, showcasing his dope and unabashedly chaotic skill yet again.

The project arrived this Tuesday with little to no rollout, after just briefly teasing a new release via social media over the past couple weeks. Of course this type of rollout is entirely his style, as he wrote via Instagram last Sunday, “I hate this shit now we gotta do TikTok dances and cartwheels with cooking tutorials to get attention this album my best listen to it I’m good at music.”

Clearly the music speaks for itself, as this tape feels like a continuation of the prolific run he’s had over the course of his last few projects.

The collaborators on this album are an incredibly dope and talented list of individuals that help create this unique sound no other artist is bringing to the table right now. Us at Pursuit of Dopeness have had it spinning it the past couple days and can confidently say this is some of his best work yet.

Below are our top five tracks from ZelooperZ – ‘Microphone Fiend’

Climate Change (Prod. Dilip + Chuck Inglish)

Starting off the project strong, this track begins with a melodic cadence as ZelooperZ croons over the beat. The track features a beat switch on the latter end, setting up the more abrasive tracks to follow. This track is also in-part produced by Chuck Inglish from Cool Kids fame, which is super dope.

Tweakin N Geekin (Prod. Stanlane)

This one is classic ZelooperZ at work. “Tweakin N Geekin” showcases some of his off the wall elements with super fast flows and even some reverse vocals that very few could pull off.

Microphone Fiend (ft. Young Coco) (Prod. Dilip)

The title track features Japanese artist Young Coco on the super catchy chorus. After recently returning from Japan I had the chance to see Young Coco live in concert and he most definitely brought the energy. This track is truly a testament to how tapped in ZelooperZ is on a global scale.

Eway (ft. 454) (Prod. 454)

After hearing 454’s production on tracks like “Always Wanted You” and “Don’t Leave” off ZelooperZ 2021 tape ‘Van Gogh’s Left Ear,’ I was excited to hear what they can do together on a track. I was not disappointed as “Eway” is a great representation of each of their styles coming together into an absolute hit.

Arbyz (Prod. Connie)

It was difficult narrowing the list down to just five tracks but I had to show love to this track here. The first I heard this track was at the Fake Shore Drive x House of Vans show this February, where he debuted the track with producer Connie holding it down as his DJ. This one had the whole crowd jumping.
