Fresh Album: Supa Bwe – ‘NO THANKS’

Westside native and Chicago legend Supa Bwe has released ‘NO THANKS,’ a project that comes over two years since his previous full-length effort. This project has been years in the making and features a lengthy yet incredible roster of artists in which the vast majority hail from Chicago. The album title and Supa’s personal life motto serves as a great representation of his reaction to the black struggle in America and especially Chicago; a city in which he correctly describes to have communities segregated by policy and a police force the size of a domestic military only out to protect the interests of their own.

Similar to previous Supa Bwe projects, he presents multiple styles and genres, yet this time around there is a clear presentation of advancement in artistic maturity. Stylistically he goes back and forth from abrasive vocal leads to jangly earworm melodies while simultaneously keeping the foot on the gas pedal with lyrics regarding race, place and love. He even goes as far to present us an interlude borrowed from a speech by Fannie Lou Hamer, a civil right activist who worked tirelessly to fight for social and racial equity in America.

All of Chicago went crazy on this album so I think it’s fair to say this project is definitely worth checking out!
