Fresh Album: midwxst – better luck next time.

Indiana based artist midwxst has released his anticipated EP ‘better luck next time.’ This project comes in the wake of a very strong 2021 in which he released two EPs alongside a deluxe to the second. Midwxst’s rise to fame coincided with the rise of digicore/ hyperpop acts such as glaive, ericdoa and aldn, all of which he went on tour with in 2021. In fact, this past year midwxst has seen Chicago twice, first at Schubas Tavern which we did a concert review of here, and at Bottom Lounge earlier this year.

‘better luck luck next time.’ is riddled with teenage heartbreak layered over a wide range of instrumentals. Tracks like “step back” are characterized by their distorted bass and brash synth melodies reminiscent of sounds off his previous tape ‘Back in Action,’ while tracks like “car seats” are structured like an ear worming pop song. This project leaves me incredibly excited for his future as well as the future of this scene.

Midwxst is also slated to perform at Lollapalooza 2022 so if you find yourself there make sure to check him out!
