ALBUM REVIEW: Our Top 5 Tracks on Young Nudy’s ‘DR. EV4L’

East Atlanta’s own Young Nudy has finally released his long awaited album DR. EV4L under RCA Records. The promotion for this album generated an extreme amount of hype and for good reason, as there was a lot of creativity showcased. In an Instagram video we see the Slimeball himself portraying the animated DR. EV4L character that is featured on the cover for this album in a both hilarious and spectacular fashion.

While many have criticized Young Nudy for lack of mainstream appeal, he is undeniably one of the most ruthless and grimey Atlanta rappers in terms of flow and delivery. This album truly feels like Nudy’s old horror influenced tapes done to perfection. If Michael Myers ever decided to make a trap album, this is exactly how I would imagine it to sound. Based on this project I think Nudy has limitless potential, especially due to it becoming more and more apparent that Nudy is becoming increasingly aware of his niche and skills.

Below are some of our favorite tracks from DR. EV4L!

“The Rustlers”

The beat on this track is incredible, and arguably my favorite on the entire album. The horror theme is very prevalent on this one, and although I am not able to confirm this, I believe there is an X-Files sample laced in there. The lyrics are classic Nudy, displaying both violence and braggadocio.

“Child’s Play” (feat. 21 Savage)

I think we all expected a feature from Nudy’s cousin 21 Savage on this project based on their previous collabs, and we were not disappointed. This track seems to be generating the most buzz at the moment and for good reason. The track’s title is an obvious reference to the horror franchise of the same name, and channels that energy directed towards their dead opps.

“Scott Evil”

This track is an excellent example of how Nudy is able to create art out of repetition. The lyrics don’t really say much in terms of substance but the repetitive bars and beat create an infectious vibe throughout. I also like the track’s title as it pays homage to Dr. Evil’s son, Scott Evil, from the Austin Powers franchise.

“Columbian Necktie”

For those not previously aware with the term, Columbian necktie refers to a form of post-mortem mutilation that involves cutting out someone’s tongue, which reflects on this track’s violent lyrics. Funnily enough, the beat on this track is one of the brightest on the project, creating an interesting dichotomy; it truly makes you feel like Young Nudy is a supervillain.

“2Face” (feat. G Herbo)

Both Nudy and Herbo showed up in a big way on this track, with both artists spitting heat over these heavy kicks and 808s. This also is the only track on the project that features a pairing video so make sure you check that out along with the album itself below!
