Recap: Mac Miller’s ‘The Divine Feminine Tour’ in Austin, Texas

posted by Ruben November 23, 2016

Mac Miller

This past Monday I was able to catch Mac Miller’s headlining performance at Emo’s in Austin, TX.

I have listened to Mac Miller’s music for a while now and in that time I have seen him grow as an artist. I will be the first to admit that sometimes I was not initially happy with some of the changes along the way, but eventually I grew to appreciate all of Mac’s work. Seeing him live has always helped grow that appreciation

Monday night’s show had two opening acts, one notably being Miller’s DJ, ClockworkDJ. When the time came for the top billing act to perform, the venue was immediately full of energy from the moment Mac hit stage to the second he vowed out, and the crowd really fed from it throughout that journey. Mac’s performance had a bit of everything, from songs like, “Stay,” “Brand Name,” “Weekend,” and “Watching Movies,” to my recent personal favorite, “Dang!” The end of the show came but the crowd was left wanting more, screaming for an encore. Miller’s final act started with “Diablo” and moved along to tracks like “Nikes on My Feet” and “Knock Knock,” from his fourth mixtape, K.I.D.S. This collection of tracks really made the show for me, being a long-time Mac Miller fan. Seeing Mac perform these songs and love doing so is the kind of stuff that puts a smile on my face.

Check out the pictures I captured at the show below. Continue Reading

Recap: Malcolm London ‘OPIA’ Release Show

posted by Rosario Edwards November 16, 2016

Chicago has become a contentious place, socially and politically. Though often condemned as a gangland paradise, it is often overlooked that there are many musicans making a positive influence on our landscape. A shining example of that is Malcolm London. London is a rising star not only inthe chicago music scene but also within the world of activism. After having organized protests, writing for the theater, and eve n being arrested for his views and actions. He has been called ‘the Gil Scott Heron of his generation by Cornel West.

Last Friday London headline 1st Ward at Chop Shop to release his new full length, OPIA. The vibe was a nervous excitement surrounding not only about the release of his new album but also about the unrest nationally over our new president. While many expected anger and contempt, London and co kept the hate to a minimum and the crowd’s mind off of our new President Elect, while still delivering the message they wanted and needed everyone to hear. It was truly inspirational. Continue Reading

POD Exclusive Interview: Turn To Crime

posted by Oscar September 24, 2015

Turn To Crime

Very early on this year I was pitched a song by Detroit group Turn To Crime and in just seconds I was sold on this Motor City outfit’s sound. The minimalist approach to production, the DIY mentality, the perfectly executed use of repetition, and the beautifully Pop-y hooks were more than enough to make us fans.

The group will be coming to Chicago to play a FREE show at The Empty Bottle on October 5th so we got band leader Derek Stanton on the phone to talk to us about all sorts of topics surrounding the band’s sound and their approach to being a band in today’s environment for music consumption. So hit the jump and read what we learned about this awesome band. Continue Reading

AkoniTheGreat - The Birth of NaziXx

In an effort with 1833 and ‘Go ILL, we’d like to present to you AkoniTheGreat’s new mixtape, The Birth Of NaZiXx. The new tape showcases the creative vision of AkoniTheGreat today and serves as the introduction of his producer alter ego: NaZiXx. The music is dark and heavy with a slow-building production, perfect for listening at night to get you riled up.

The tape is our first look at what’s set to be a trilogy project. For a description of what Akoni is attempting to accomplish with this release we need to look no further than the artist himself who says: “The Birth of NaZiXx is the birth of a young prodigy out of Chicago. One who will part the Great Lakes and let the rest of the world enter his realm.”

That’s ambition. Hear/download The Birth of NaZiXx below. Continue Reading

POD Exclusive Interview: Auggie the 9th Talks About ‘GAWS’

posted by Oscar September 6, 2013

Last week we sat down with Auggie The 9th to talk about his latest project GAWS. Auggie opened up about his writing process, some of the featured artists and collaborators on the new project, videos in the works, and the impact that he expects from its release.

@A9ER is set to release GAWS sometime later this year, so be on the lookout for that announcement coming soon enough. See the full interview above.

*Note: I met him at Wicker Park and conducted the interview on a bench out there in the open. Wise choice? The trains and sirens heard in the background prove that it sort of wasn’t. My bad. But bare with us, the info he gave us is DOPE!
