POD Premiere: ‘ROBERT’ – Bobby Beatz

We’re excited to premiere Bobby Beatz’s debut album, ROBERT, on our page! This album has just been independently released and we couldn’t be more excited to highlight this exceptional body of work produced entirely by our close homie Bobby. We were fortunate enough to feature Bobby’s immaculate production throughout our various cyphers in 2020 and 2021!

Earlier this week, the POD team was lucky enough to be in the house for an intimate listening party for ROBERT at Kone Ranger, a dope boutique located in the heart of Logan Square. Our expectations for the album were completely and utterly exceeded and we’re proud to be featuring ROBERT as POD’s latest exclusive premiere. Between the intricate and precise production, wonderful homegrown features, and immaculate cohesion, this album provides listeners with an experience that captivates throughout its entirety. Bobby’s musical upbringing shines through on every track as his intricate percussive selection perfectly complements the ever-changing moods throughout this compilation.

A wildly dope range of completely Chicago-based artists including Patrick Sun, Bodhi Z, 7K, JAY.WES, Jim Burton, better known as, lemonxde80s, and OG Stevo offered a variety of features that all work in complete harmony with each other. Bobby clearly pushed some of his collaborating artists outside of their comfort zones, and every track impresses in its own way.

Bobby had this to say in regard to his inspiration and creative process for ROBERT:

“I found a lot of inspiration for the album listening to old funk and soul music, even movie soundtracks from the 60s & 70s. I really dug through the crates to find some interesting samples. I spent a lot of time in the creative process outside, which is where I drew the visual imagery from. I had a ‘less-is-more’ mindset, looking to get artists on relatively minimal beats while still being very personal, emotional, & nostalgic.”

He continued, saying:

“I didn’t have an intended audience other than myself while creating it. The idea came to make an album that gives a glimpse into my feelings, so I guess I made this album for anyone interested in taking a peek inside. One thing I hope the listeners get out of this is inspiration. I’m often inspired by other artists, so igniting people to put their feelings into the physical world through art or speaking about things that they’d otherwise keep suppressed would be so fulfilling.”

Do us a big favor and stream the heck out of ROBERT, below! Shoutout Bobby for continually working to progress Chicago’s music scene, be sure to tune in to this young talent.
