A deal is reportedly in its final stages to build a professional soccer stadium complex in Flushing Meadows Corona Park.

The 25,000-seat stadium and nine community playing fields will be constructed on nine acres next to Arthur Ashe tennis stadium in Queens, the NY Post reported.

Ground on the complex could be broken as early as 2013 and could cost up to $300 million to build.

Flushing Meadows was selected because it is centrally located in a borough with large ethnic populations who love the sport of soccer, according to the Post.

The professional soccer association in the United States, Major League Soccer, would fully fund the project which requires approval by the state, city and the Metropolitan Transportation Authority, sources told the paper.

The team that would call Queens home would rival the New York Red Bulls who actually play in Harrison, New Jersey, at Red Bull Arena.
