
On July 9th, Son Rompe Pera gave their fans an experience worthwhile at Thalia Hall in collaboration with the local Chicago community, Ruidosa Art Collective. The band performed an impeccable experience for their fans, expressing their emotions of how grateful they are to be back in Chicago. From crowd waves, mosh pits and intimate dances, everyone was able to allow themselves to have fun, respectfully.
Cabeza De Chivo took the stage at Thalia Hall in collaboration with the local Chicago community, Ruidosa Art Collective. The band open up for iconic Son Rompe Pera coming all the way from Mexico City. During their set, everyone across all demographic backgrounds took the dance floor as powerful as cumbia beats led them to it. Every song showcased from Cabeza De Chivo, kept on building momentum just right to have fans begging for more. Everyone safely looked out for each other, a kind of heartfelt action that is seen across live performances nowadays.
Cabeza De Chivo performed their latest release, their self-titled EP, which is a huge celebration to have an uprising Chicago band in the most iconic venue in Chicago. This event was a full circle for the band to lead the way of music that strikes core to not only the latino community, but the overall scene itself is truly incredible to witness live. Each of the band members gave it their best, hyping up the crowd to follow them along the journey of Psychotropical music.
This band is truly one of a kind and it’s incredible to see their journey in the music scene. From the addictive rhythms,it’s welcomed for everyone to allow themselves to express their emotions, through dancing. It’s exciting to witness fans chatting their excitement throughout their set. In fact, many Chicago local artists attend the event to support the band’s huge success. Son Rompe Pera, is paving the way for the Cumbia-Punk genre across the states as there has been an uprising of this specific music nowadays. Though the genre has been influenced by two separate genres, it ties together the crowd across from these genres to unite and it blends perfectly. Throughout the night, fans experienced “Marimba” mosh pits, a musical instrument that isn’t typically utilized in “punk’. The band is breaking the stigma of what is considered to be “punk” which was truly amazing to witness for the first time.
All the way from Mexico City, Son Rompe Pera roots are influenced from their mexican culture, cumbia. This genre that has been a staple piece across central and south america. Though the genre has led to influencing certain demographic groups, the tie with punk is allowing space for up and coming bands to confine tunes worth exploring.
Many fans wearing their merch, which had the title, “Cumbia is the new Punk” written across in bold letters. It’s truly fascinating to see Son Rompe Pera embark their journey across the states and continue to express their roots, where they go, will forever stay in their hearts. Now that is love in which the latino community needed to hear on this special night.
