Wet Leg Share New Song/Video, “Ur Mum”

My favorite new band Wet Leg are releasing today their new single entitled “Ur Mum.” The track from the Isle of Wight duo is being delivered along with a Lavaland-directed music video following Rhian Teasdale and Hester Chambers working at a convenience store being annoyed by a pretentious guy (played by Tommy Villiers), who later sees himself jealously wanting to be part of Wet Leg. I wanna join the band, too.

The song has a lot of the same elements that make Wet Leg tunes so good: basslines that carry some weight, catchy guitar riffs, and the perfect balance struck by Teasdale’s vocal performance that flips between relaxed to the point of flirting with disinterest, to these vibrant melodies. My favorite part is the countdown to a hearty scream.

Lava La Rue says via a press release about directing the group’s latest video:

The ‘Ur Mum’ video was all about bringing the viewer into the Wet Leg world – sprinkling details throughout the visual that not only reference at least 4 songs off the album but also plenty of inside jokes within the band too. Artistically it shows where the aesthetic of American indie films like Napoleon Dynamite fit perfectly in the scape of rural British settings – this concept first came to me when the band took me to IOW for the first time – I saw the connection and it all clicked into place.

Wet Leg is available to pre-order on exclusive clear vinyl (with a 7” of two non-album tracks) via the band’s webstore, standard vinyl, cassette, CD and digitally. A variety of merch (T-shirt, print) is available as a pre-order bundle too. Pre-order: Wet Leg Store | Digital

Yeah, I’m still pissed that I missed them when I was in NYC and now that I’m back in Chicago. Don’t be like me. Go see Wet Leg live now, before it’s too late (– in the sense that they’ll be playing bigger venues and you might be the type to avoid bigger venues).
