Dope Dozen: North Coast Music Festival ’21

North Coast Music Festival is set to take off this weekend within the property of Bridgeview’s Seatgeek Stadium, the former full-time home of the Chicago Fire. This lineup is full of amazing DJs, producers, and musicians; we expect the talent as well as the production value to be top-tier throughout the weekend!

North Coast has seemingly evolved each year it’s been around and they’ve decided to pivot towards a mostly electronic lineup this year which is very exciting.

Check out the official North Coast Music Festival app for more information, but in the meantime, check out the twelve artists we believe will put on memorable sets this Labor Day Weekend below!

Rezz

Canadian DJ and producer Rezz will be dancing alongside thousands on Sunday at The Stadium stage as soon as the sun goes down. Expect a fiery set fit with a genre-bending range of music. There will definitely be many intense moments throughout this set so be sure to pull up with some energy!

Griz

Griz’s talents as a multi-instrumentalist will be showcased on Saturday evening as he headlines The Stadium stage. Griz is such a likable individual and his sets seem to be an undeniable party each and every time he’s placed on a lineup. His musical electronic music will undoubtedly provide an excellent set. It’s been a while since Griz has performed in Chicago, so definitely head over to show some love.

Diesel

Come on… it’s Shaq. Be sure to check his set out on Saturday evening in the stadium, I’m sure most of the fest’s attendees will be pulling up for this one!

Wax Motif

Wax’s confident personality resonates through his live performances and that’s clear when checking out his older recorded sets. He’ll be performing this Friday and will also be hitting the stage at SoundBar for an aftershow Friday evening. I’m personally hoping to see what sort of visuals would pair with his track “Lose Control”.

Claude VonStroke

I’ll be honest, although I thoroughly enjoy electronic music, I’m not the biggest follower so I had to really do my due diligence to check out some artists in preparation for this fest. One of the artists that I’ve fortunately discovered as I’ve been getting ready for this Labor Day weekend is Claude VonStroke. He’ll be at The Canopy stage on Friday night and I anticipate a dope house set from the Ohio-native that released his debut album in 2006.

Chris Lake

Chris’ intricately produced dance music is so damn fun to listen to. North Coast’s visual production is always top-tier but I’m looking forward to the visuals during this set in particular. I’m definitely hoping to see “The Answer” live. Chris will going on before Rezz on Sunday at The Stadium stage to put on a dope set as the sun sets.

Green Velvet

North Coast truly tapped into the city’s hometown talent this year when considering Chicago staples like Green Velvet and Kaskade. Green Velvet, born Curtis Jones, has performed in front of the whole world and he still offers immaculate DJ sets and production. Be on the lookout for both an impressive solo set on Saturday at 8:30 followed by a B2B with a special guest on The Canopy stage.

Louis the Child

Louis the Child is another hometown act that’s sure to bring positive energy. They’re on their ‘Euphoria’ tour and I can guarantee that their set will provide many euphoric moments on Friday as the sun goes down. Look out for really positive vibes and a lot of irresistible dancing during this set in particular.

Dom Dolla

Dom Dolla is going to bring an uptempo dance set to North Coast on Saturday night with style and ease. Dom is an Australian-born producer who utilizes his own music mixed with an endless catalog of external music to offer a unique set each and every time. Check out a really dope set here that Dom put together for the Defected Virtual Festival/Fundraiser that Defected Records presented during the height of the pandemic… the impressive set has me looking forward to Dom’s set.

John Summit

I expect Chicago-native John Summit will throw down a immaculate house set from 6:15-7:30 at The Vega stage on Sunday. Summit has 3.4M monthly Spotify listeners so I’d also have to expect he’ll pull a sizable crowd in his hometown. John has worked with Defected Records as well as Claude VonStroke’s Dirtybird Records; he definitely provides similar vibes to Claude’s signature “tech funk”. You won’t want to miss this one!

LSDream

Based on some of the live sets of LSDream that have been posted online, this set will provide euphoric and bass-heavy EDM. I’m looking forward to seeing what The Vega stage will look like, I’m sure it’ll provide the perfect setting for a trippy hour-long set. His management describes LSDream as a “sonic journey to the other side of the bass world.” Check him out if you’re looking for a hard-hitting set.

Bonobo (DJ set)

If you are looking for a change of pace at the festival, Bonobo will surely deliver. His sound is all about creating an extremely chill atmosphere that will take you for a cruise. His DJ sets are beautiful symphonies that combine club and world music in a perfect way. Drawing the audience in with each beat, riding the rhythmic wave that resonates from his speakers. I remember being on that very wave and enjoying every twist and turn Bonobo threw at us. Unlike many EDM artists that bombard you with base drops and flashy lights, Bonobo likes to take listeners on a journey through a world he created. -Victor
