‘The Metallica Blacklist’ Covers Album Announced feat. Phoebe Bridgers, St. Vincent, J Balvin, the Neptunes

As wild as it may seem, but Metallica’s iconic self-titled fifth album, better known as The Black Album, is hitting its 30th anniversary this year and the band has something special planned to celebrate.

To be released September 10th on the band’s own Blackened Recordings, Metallica will be coming out with a remastered version of the the GRAMMY-winning, 16x platinum-certified album which will be available in an assortment of packages ncluding 180 gram Double Vinyl LP, Standard CD and 3 CD Expanded Edition, digital, and Limited Edition Deluxe Box Set (containing the album remastered on 180G 2LP, a picture disc, three live LPs, 14 CDs (containing rough mixes, demos, interviews, live shows), 6 DVDs (containing outtakes, behind the scenes, official videos, live shows), a 120-page hardcover book, four tour laminates, three lithos, three guitar picks, a Metallica lanyard, a folder with lyric sheets, and a download card).

Not only that, Metal gods will also be sharing that day a covers album entitled The Metallica Blacklist. The new project brings together over 50 artists from an incredibly diverse set of genres and generations to give their spin of the 12 songs making up The Black Album. The star-studded cast of contributors include Phoebe Bridgers, Elton John, Kamasi Washington, Mac DeMarco, Moses Sumney, St. Vincent, J Balvin, the Neptunes, and more.

To preview the forthcoming album, Metallica have shared trailers (above), demos, and remastering previews, along with Juanes’ rendition of “Enter Sandman” plus a version of “Nothing Else Matters” by Miley Cyrus with Watt, Elton John, Yo-Yo Ma, Metallica bassist Robert Trujillo, and Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith. Profits will be divided evenly between charities of the artist’s choice and Metallica’s All Within My Hands Foundation.
