James Blake Announces Covers EP, Shares Rendition of “The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face”

A day after appearing on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon to play a cover of Roberta Flack’s classic “The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face” (written by Ewan MacColl), James Blake is formally announcing his Covers EP.

The new EP will be released December 11, 2020 and Blake was moved to do so thanks to his time spent at home during lockdown during which he would share his performance of fan-requested covers on social media. Covers EP will be comprised of some of his favorite covers, including his version of Frank Ocean’s “Godspeed.”

The Grammy Award-winning UK singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and producer shared about the inspiration for the EP:

One of the things keeping me going mentally throughout lockdown has been the requests from fans for different covers and performing them on Instagram. It’s been a joy to discover new music and new ways of playing songs I’ve already heard… I might even throw in a surprise that no one has heard me play on socials before. I’m excited to share it with people.
