POD Photos: Vince Staples’ ‘Smile You’re on Camera Tour’ Hits The Riviera Theatre (3/12)

Vince Staples has shown off one of the most infectious styles in the rap game for a minute now. To see him showcase his talents live is always a really special experience. I was lucky enough to see him once before, opening for Tyler, the Creator at Aragon Ballroom. One year later and a few steps across the street, I found myself in the Uptown neighborhood once again really geeked to shoot one of my favorite artists at the Riviera Theater.

Opening up for Vince on his “Smile You’re On Camera Tour” supporting his latest effort, “FM!”, was Trill Sammy who hyped the crowd up with some of his hits like “3AM” and “Do Not Disturb”.

Next up was the unbelievably energetic and bizarre JPEGMAFIA. This is one unique and talented artist. He showcases a mix of punk rock and hard, bass-rocking trap beats. Don’t sleep on tracks such as “Thug Tears” and “1539 N. Calvert”.

Vince then came out with as much energy as I’d ever seen out of an artist. With a super dope stage setup combined with the aesthetic of the Riviera, he put on a hell of a show. Starting off his set, I was able to be in the pit for “Feels Like Summer”, “Don’t Get Chipped”, and “Lift Me Up”. Wow. Two of my favorite tracks off of “FM!” and a classic. He went on to weave through his extensive discography playing tracks off of all of his albums. Vince raps on stage with precision, swagger, and ease and I hope to see him soon in the future.
