Video: See Footage Of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs Return

posted by Oscar April 23, 2016

Yeah Yeah Yeahs back! The band finally returned after going on hiatus following the release and consequent tour of 2013’s Mosquito. Last night the band made a surprise appearance at New York’s Dream Hotel to perform at a Tribeca afterparty for the Mick Rock documentary SHOT! The Psycho-Spiritual Mantra of Rock.

The trio were joined by Money Mark and TV on the Radio’s Jaleel Bunton as they performed “Moonage Daydream” (David Bowie cover) and “Perfect Day” (Lou Reed cover). As if that wasn’t enough, the band subbed in Marky Ramone to play a live rendition of The Ramones’ “Sheena Is a Punk Rocker.” See this last clip above and scroll to find more footage from that set. Her Soundtrack

A new version of Karen O’s Oscar-nominated track, “The Moon Song” now featuring Ezra Koenig (Vampire Weekend) has been revealed. The new version, premiering yesterday on Rolling Stone gets that added emotional depth thanks to both singers trading lines of love.

Recap: Q87.7’s PIQNIQ Festival

posted by Oscar June 30, 2013

piqniq 2013

Chicago’s new home for Alternative Rock on the traditional airwaves, Q87.7, put together a one-day music festival that featured AWOLNATION, Sileversun Pickups, Atlas Genius, Bush and headlined by Yeah Yeah Yeahs. The bands mentioned previously fronted the main stage at First Midwest Bank Amphiheatre, while bands like New Politics, Twenty|One|Pilots and Cold War Kids performed at the secondary stage. No offense to these bands (we heard Twenty|One|Pilots from the parking lot and Cold War Kids played at the same time Atlas Genius started, so we skipped that) but we prioritized downing some Modelo tallboys and then just head in by the time the main stage bands started. Yeah Yeah Yeahs Will Headline Q87.7’s PIQNIQ Festival

posted by Oscar April 29, 2013

piqniq 2013

As if there weren’t enough reasons around that make summer in Chicago awesome, our local Alternative Rock (is that still technically the term/genre?) radio station Q87.7, has announced the launch of its first PIQNIQ festival. The new festival will take place at First Midwest Bank Amphitheatre on June 29.

What may be the most important part about this announcement is that the fest’s headliners will be the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, who are making their only appearance in Chicago(land). Some of the other bands that will be heading over to Tinley are Bush, AWOLNATION, Silversun Pickups, Cold War Kids, and Atlas Genius among others.

Video: Yeah Yeah Yeahs Perform “Sacrilege” on ‘Letterman’

posted by Oscar April 6, 2013

Not sure how I missed this, but the Yeah Yeah Yeahs went on Letterman to perform “Sacrilege” with Karen O doing her best Elvis impression (check out that jumpsuit!) and there was even a full choir to accompany them for the second half of the song (just like in the studio version). The performance was powerful and it really demonstrated the ability that this New York band has to put on a good show. Look out for the album, Mosquito, when it drops April 16.

Yeah Yeah Yeahs Talk To the NYT About Their Career; Stream New Song

posted by Oscar March 29, 2013

(Photo: NME)

Yeah Yeah Yeahs have a featured story with the New York Times in which they in-depth feature in which they open up about several aspects of the band’s history and future. Karen O, described by the legendary newspaper as a descendent of Freddie Mercury and David Bowie thanks to her extravagant stage antics, opened up about their knack for taking some time between releasing albums and how that has been affected by their evolution by saying: “Being in the shadow a little bit preserved us… Coming up in a real moment baptized us as special, there’s no question. But we’ve been allowed to evolve.”

The YYYs not only gave the NYT the time for the newspaper to write this story but they a also gave the readers and exclusive preview of a new track off their upcoming record called “Under the Earth.” Stream the new song here. They also have a playlist of what the band listened to while growing up featuring gems like “Hot For Teacher” by Van Halen, “Heart Of Glass” by Blondie, and “Longview” by Green Day (among others).

Yeah Yeah Yeahs’ have published the visuals for their song, “Sacrilege.” The video for the first single from the New York band’s forthcoming album Mosquito, dropping April 16, The video is a weird one, in great YYYs fashion, telling the story in reverse about a woman who’s “adventurous” (to say the least) with a few too many people around town who end up persecuting her (scarlet letter style) until ultimately killing her for sleeping around, yet everyone in the mob had been involved with her and they had the impertinence of attending her wedding.
