posted by Oscar April 1, 2014

US Away Kit 2014

Today saw the unveiling of the new Away kit that the US Men’s & Women’s National Teams will be using in 2014. Designed by Nike, the new kit is a bold change from what we were used to seeing in recent memory for the U.S.A. The shirt sports a modern crew-neck collar with three bands the color of the American flag.

The base color of the jersey and the cuff of the sleeves feature a prominent red. The upper torso and top sleeves include a bold blue tone, and a white chest band extends over the middle of both sleeves.

To help with the announcement of the new shirt, the U.S. Soccer Federation got help from members of the team like Clint Dempsey and Sydney Leroux, former US international Alexi Lalas, and non-soccer stars like football players Andrew Luck and Ndamukong Suh; skateboarders Eric Koston and Sean Malto; track and field gold medalist Allyson Felix; music producer Diplo; musicians HAIM; and filmmaker Spike Lee.

The new U.S. National Team Away Kit is available at Nike stores and on nike.com beginning April 1. See more pics below. Continue Reading

England Home Kit 2014

Today we get Nike’s new home and away kits that England will wear at this year’s World Cup in Brazil. The home kit is all white with only the Nike swoosh in blue and the team badge in its customary colors, along with pinstripes embedded in the fabric. The away jersey also follows tradition with an iconic red shirt (much like the one they wore when they won the WC in ’66), with a tonal pinstripe also infused into the fabric.

Brazuca: Official Ball of World Cup 2014 by Adidas

posted by Oscar December 3, 2013

The official sponsor of the World Cup, adidas, has unveiled the latest edition of the most important component of the biggest sporting event on Earth, the official “match ball.” World Cup 2014 will be played with brazuca, which is comprised of just six propeller-shaped, thermally bonded panels that emulate the way that air would move around a traditional 32-panel ball. The six panels are symmetrical and interlocking, a design meant to allow for “better aerodynamics and more stable flight,” according to Antonia Zea, Innovation Director for Football at adidas,

Uruguay World Cup 2014 Home Kit by Puma

Uruguay was the last team to secure a spot at World Cup 2014, but did so with 5-0 (agg,) play-off triumph over Jordan. Once the team’s presence in Brazil next year became official, the clever folks over at Puma created a video to reveal their new kits and to remind the people of Brazil that the ghost of 1950 is back. For those of you that may not know by now, Brazil last hosted a World Cup back in 1950 and even made the final, but they lost the match to Uruguay at the Maracana in front of almost 200,ooo people. That’s considered one of the worst moments in Brazilian soccer history, and Uruguay would like to remind them of that.
