Video: The Vaccines – “Night Changes” (One Direction Cover) Live for BBC Radio 1

posted by Oscar May 20, 2015

Here’s another first for us… Never thought I’d be sharing a One Direction cover (or anything 1D in general), but when I saw one of my favorite bands lately, The Vaccines, covered it I had to make the exception. The band visited the BBC Radio 1 Live Lounge and took part in the customary live cover performance and their selection of a boy band hit may seem a bit weird on paper, but it actually turned out pretty alright.

The Vaccines reworked the song to be a little less Top 40 and mellowed it down a bit to make it sound a little more Synthpop, like that of what a lot of the Alternative stations tend to play these days. See the performance above.

Video: The Vaccines – “Minimal Affection”

posted by Oscar April 27, 2015

The Vaccines have unveiled another cut off their forthcoming album with a dual release of their new song paired with its music video. The track is titled “Minimal Affection” and it’s much more aligned to the music of Depeche Mode than the Garage Rock that was prevalent in their earlier material.

Check out the visuals above. English Graffiti is out 5/26 via Columbia; pre-order it here.

Video: The Vaccines – “Dream Lover”

posted by Oscar April 1, 2015

The Vaccines opened up the month with the release of a new music video for “Dream Lover.” The Pop-y Rock slow jam plays like a score for a mini Sci-Fi film. The band boards a ship in search of “The Dream Lover,” which transforms into your greatest desire when touched, but they have to defeat some hot lady guards and then get pass an all-protecting eye before reaching it. See it above.

Video: The Vaccines – “Handsome”

posted by Oscar January 19, 2015

Finally some new stuff from The Vaccines! The British band marks their return with the simultaneous release of new single/video “Handsome.” The song came to us as a premiere on Zane Lowe’s BBC Radio 1 show and it’s more of the straightforward Rock & Roll that made this band a fan favorite.

The visuals play like a campy Kung-Fu short film with plenty of fights, exhausting martial arts training, and eccentric characters; not to mention the sound effects. See the new video above.

The Vaccines – “Do You Want A Man?” (John Hill + Rich Costey Remix)

The Vaccines - Melody Calling

A new track from The Vaccines has been unveiled…

“Do You Want A Man?” remixed by producers John Hill and Rich Costey, has surfaced on Soundcloud as another preview of the band’s next project. Much like the title track, “Do You Want A Man?” sounds very different to what we’re used to from the band and the new EP, so far, feels like it’s going for a much more mellow vibe. Continue Reading

Lollapalooza’s Petrillo stage hosted The Vaccines’ set over the weekend and those of us in attendance sure got to see a great show. The band played many fan-favorites from What Did You Expect From The Vaccines?  like “Post Break-Up Sex,” “If You Wanna,” “Blow It Up,” “Wreckin’ Bar,” plus newer tracks like “Teenage Icon” and their latest single, “Melody Calling.”

The Vaccines – “Everybody’s Gonna Let You Down”

The Vaccines - Melody Calling

A new song from The Vaccines has surfaced, and it sounds great. The British band may perhaps best be known for the pseudo-Punk revivalist sound heard on their 2010 debut What Did You Expect From The Vaccines?, but this new track features a much more melodic sound that helps explain the EP’s title.

Video: Mumford and Sons & Others – “…Help From My Friends” (The Beatles Cover) at Glastonbury 2013

posted by Oscar July 1, 2013

Mumford and Sons Glastonbury 2013

Modern Folk Rockers Mumford & Sons closed out Glastonbury 2013 in great fashion with a massive cover of a Beatles classic. With a little help (ha! good one, me) from members of the Vaccines, First Aid Kit, and Vampire Weekend, the UK band played The Beatles’ “With A Little Help From My Friends.” While this performance was definitely awesome, it was technically a cover of Joe Cocker’s cover of the Beatles’ song he and his band famously played at the original Woodstock. Which gets me thinking, am I the only one that prefers the peppier, less dramatic sounds of the original?

Most importantly, this all-star performance makes a good case for attending music festivals; there’s always a chance you’ll get to witness a bit of magic in the name of Rock & Roll.

The Vaccines – “Melody Calling”

The Vaccines - Melody Calling

The Vaccines have released a new track called “Melody Calling.” The British band have made it available for streaming exclusively through NME. The new song was recorded in Burbank, L.A.’s Eldorado Studios with producers John Hill (Rihanna, M.I.A, Santigold) and Rich Costey (Muse, Franz Ferdinand, Arctic Monkeys).

As one of my favorite bands in recent history, I can only hope this track is the first of many releases to come from this band. For you readers in the UK make sure to check them out at the Pyramid Stage at Glastonbury this weekend and for those of you on this side of the pond check them out when they’re here for Lolla. Hear “Melody Calling” below. Continue Reading

Official Lollapalooza Lineup 2013 [Update]

posted by Oscar April 1, 2013

2013_Lolla_Logo-4c.pos

Just days after 3-Day Passes were sold-out, a new Lollapalooza 2013 lineup has leaked. It looks legit, but then again, so many other leaked lineups have also looked like the real deal… And indeed it was legit. If (T)his is really this year’s lineup, (so) us at POD and the rest of the festival’s attendees will have to choose between headliners like The Cure, Mumford & Sons, The Killers, Nine Inch Nails, Phoenix, The Postal Service, Vampire Weekend and New Order.

Some of the other notable acts found on the list are Queens of the Stone Age, The Lumineers, Kendrick Lamar, Steve Aoki, Imagine Dragons, The Vaccines, 2 Chainz, Wavves, Alt-J, Jake Bugg and Foals. Our (Chicago) scene is well-represented on the list with the Orwells, Chance The Rapper, and Smith Westerns making the cut.

See the full, supposed official Lolla 2013 lineup after the jump. Daily breakdown is also now available.
