Video: The Strokes Perform “Drag Queen” and “Threat Of Joy” at Governors Ball

posted by Oscar June 5, 2016

Day 1 of Governors Ball was capped by a magisterial headlining performance from hometown boys The Strokes. The band’s set was a can’t-miss one, inspiring people to fly in from all parts of the world ranging from places as close as Chicago (like myself) and as far as New Zealand (met some Kiwis, awesome partiers lol) to catch it.

Julian Casablancas and the boys played all of their iconic hits from “The Modern Age” to “Last Nite” to “Reptilia” and set closer “You Only Live Once.” Also making their set were tracks off their new EP, Future Present Past. The new tracks that we got to see performed live were “Drag Queen” (shown above) and “Threat Of Joy” and much to my surprise, they were all received extremely well and just about everyone around me actually knew the lyrics too.

Check below for video of “Threat Of Joy” and more clips including a cover of The Clash. Continue Reading

Dopest Live Shows of 2014

posted by Oscar December 23, 2014

For the final post of our year-end list series we name the Dopest Live Shows of 2014. The best thing about making this list is that we get to look back at the year that was and have it serve as a little reminder that we got to experience some excellent concerts. Much like every year since we’ve been in existence, we largely attended shows in our home city of Chicago, but this 2K14 we had the chance to attend a couple of festivals in cities like Austin, Minneapolis and NYC, that wound up being some of the best experiences ever.

From club gigs to world-renowned major festivals, here are the Dopest Live Shows of 2014. Continue Reading

Governors Ball Lineup Announced; feat. OutKast, Jack White, Vampire Weekend

posted by Oscar January 15, 2014

This month’s confirmation that OutKast will be playing 40 festivals this year all but assures the ATL duo will be performing at Lolla this summer, but today’s announcement scratches off from that number as they will be one of the headliners for the 2014 edition of New York’s Governors Ball.

Some of the other featured acts include Jack White, Vampire Weekend, The Strokes’ Julian Casablancas, J. Cole, James Blake, Childish Gambino, and Chance The Rapper. That list looks like the perfect reason to be in NYC next June.

UPDATE: NYC’s The Strokes were announced earlier today (Wednesday, 1/15) as a late addition to the festival. This lineup just got that much more awesome.

The fest will run from June 6-8 on Randall’s Island; tickets go on sale today at 3 p.m. EST here.
