Video: Treehouse Sessions – The Orwells

posted by Oscar October 25, 2014

The latest installment of Consequence Of Sound’s Treehouse Sessions series includes Chicago rockers and POD favorites The Orwells, who sat atop the Treehouse van to talk about Rock stardom and their own rise to fame. The Elmhurst dudes also performed a couple of Disgraceland tunes in “North Ave.” and my personal favorite from the album, “Bathroom Tile Blues.”

See that above.

The Orwells – Live From Electrical Audio

posted by Oscar August 7, 2014

The Orwells Live from Electrical Audio

Earlier this year, The Orwells released one of our favorite records of 2014 with Disgraceland and this week they’ve released a collection of some cuts from that album for an EP of live recordings at Electrical Audio. The EP (Live From Electrical Audio) consists of live studio versions of songs, “The Righteous One,” “Dirty Sheets,” “Let It Burn,” “Who Needs You,” and “Southern Comfort.”

These live versions are pretty similar to what you’d be able to hear at a show of theirs, gritty vocals and perfectly fuzzy guitars but minus the moshing. Hear it by clicking over to Beats Music.

Recap: The Orwells feat. Twin Peaks – Live at Lincoln Hall

posted by Oscar April 2, 2014

The Orwells - Mario Cuomo

Last night’s show at Lincoln Hall served as a homecoming concert for The Orwells and Twin Peaks, and the young bands were treated like the local heroes they’ve become to us fans in Chicago. Seeing The Orwells this time around felt like I was in the presence of big-time artists with a stadium-ready sound that somehow were mistakenly booked for a club gig. In other words, these guys played an all-around kick-ass show and demonstrated that they are on the brink of stardom for very deserved reasons.

Dopest Things We Saw at SXSW ’14

posted by Oscar March 21, 2014

2014 SXSW Logo

SXSW is quickly becoming one of our favorite music festivals thanks to all the artists, genres, and industry players that hit Austin, TX for a week every year. For our second time down in ATX for this great festival, we saw shows from artists we know from Chicago like ShowYouSuck and Marrow, mainstream acts like Earl Sweatshirt and Future, to acts we’d never heard of before but genuinely enjoyed discovering like Chocolate Tiger and others. Of all the great things and dope shows we came across last week in Texas, here are the dopest things we saw (*in no particularly ranked order) at SXSW ’14. Continue Reading

Video: The Orwells – “Who Needs You” Live on ‘Letterman’

posted by Oscar January 16, 2014

The Orwells made their American network TV debut on none other than Late Show with David Letterman. That performance, to say the least, was badass! The guitars were sounding a tad bit more distorted to give it a more raw/dirtier finish and lead singer Mario Cuomo played the part of a classic “frontman” like I hadn’t seen in years. Letterman himself was more than impressed and so was Paul Schaffer, so stick around till the very end of the video to see their reaction.

Don’t miss them when they tour the country this coming March-April. Details HERE.

Video: The Orwells – “Dirty Sheets” (Live In London)

posted by Oscar November 21, 2013

The Orwells are quickly conquering the UK one club at a time and on one recent date our fellow Chicagoans performed their latest track, “Dirty Sheets” live in London. This live rendition of the song is not as polished as what you hear on the studio version but the raw energy that’s felt within the performance is exactly what gives this clip its charm. These dudes breathe Rock & Roll and it’s more than evident in this video.

Video: The Orwells – “Who Needs You” Live on ‘Later… with Jools Holland’

posted by Oscar November 6, 2013

Yesterday (11/5) The Orwells went on BBC 2’s Later… with Jools Holland to play their latest EP’s title track and lead single, “Who Needs You.” The Chicago area band put on a damn good performance to further prove why these guys are generating such a buzz here and especially across the pond.

See that performance above. If you’re in the UK or any of the countries where you’re able to see BBC 2 videos, see it here.

Video: The Orwells – “I Wanna Be Your Dog” (Live In London)

posted by Oscar October 15, 2013

The Orwells have been on tour all year and during a short run in the Old World, the Chicago area band was captured playing a cover of a Punk classic, “I Wanna Be Your Dog.” The band played that song to close out their set at Lollapalooza and this clip shows them playing it once more but now in London.

Their version is a bit heavier and darker than the original, and seeing it be performed live in a small club makes it look ridiculously awesome. Check it out above.

The Orwells Live at Lollapalooza

The young, Chicago suburbs band played an awesome, thunderous set at Lollapalooza 2013. Seeing them for the first time, I felt like these guys really lived up to expectations and the crowd that filled The Grove stage early Sunday afternoon fed off that energy to a high degree. The Orwells played songs like new single “Who Needs You” (shown above), “Blood Bubbles,” “In My Bed,” with a cover of The Stooges’ “Now I Wanna Be Your Dog” serving as a perfect set closer/encore.
