Kanye West Surprises us with “BED YEEZY SEASON 5”

posted by Tali February 28, 2017

As many of us were in bed, or twiddling our thumbs of late night scrolls through social media, Kanye West decided to share some new music, VIA SOUNDCLOUD. The 17-minute track, “Bed Yeezy Season 5” was uploaded to Soundcloud around 3:30am, Chicago time; making this the first time its been active in eight months. His re-work of The Dream’s original track, ‘Bed’ is admirable work as always, but unfortunately many are left to ask, “Where’s the verse, Ye?”

Nevertheless, spend your next 17 minutes right:

#TheDopeness: Things To Do This Weekend (2/23-2/26)

posted by Alex February 22, 2017

The weekend’s almost here and it’s time to make plans. Let us help you make those plans a little easier. With so much going on in the city every week, here are a handful of events that you may want to consider attending. If you got an event worth going to, @ me bruh!

Dally Auston – 2/23 @ Chop Shop: You really need to be at Chop Shop on Thursday night. Dally Auston will be blessing the stage along with a bunch of his homies. If you do one thing at all this weekend, make sure it’s going to this show. #SaveMoney #WSGTM

Stefan Ponce & Friends – 2/24 @ East Room: Stefan Ponce. East Room. Do I really have to say anything else aside from, get there nice and early? I don’t think so. You’re welcome.

Savoy – 2/25 @ Chop Shop: We’ve featured Savoy and their latest project called Tomorrow Today, Pt. 1. If you copped a ticket on time, you’re definitely in for a good show.

The Dream – 2/25 @ The Metro: Maybe you messed up on Valentine’s day and didn’t send that special person flowers or candy to the job. Or maybe the sidepiece doesn’t feel enough love from you. Whatever the case may be, The Dream at The Metro can certainly fix those feelings. Don’t play ya’self again, tickets are still available!

Another House Party – 2/25 @ Beauty Bar: Bring your 90’s gear and best “running man” skills to Beauty Bar on Saturday. You won’t regret it!

Stix Presents Jam Night – 2/26 @ Schuba’s: The awesome thing about this monthly party is that you’ll never know who comes out. Last month Chance made an appearance. Maybe two months in a row? Only way to find out is by heading over to Schuba’s. Tickets are here.

Album Review: Our Top 5 Songs on Kanye West’s ‘The Life Of Pablo’

posted by Oscar February 17, 2016

Kanye West - The Life Of Pablo

The follow-up to Kanye West’s Yeezus was finally released over the weekend after a stellar performance on SNL and a some delays on what would be the final packaging of the record.

The Life Of Pablo has had many transformations along the way, including title changes and overnight track list updates, but beyond all of that is the fact that Kanye himself has confirmed that he is continuing to work on this ever-evolving project, even though it’s already been released for public consumption. So this review will focus on the project as it stands today, which at the time of publication means TLOP has 17 tracks and these are the tracks that we’re delving into here. Overall, the album is yet another strong effort from Kanye that only strengthens his legacy. Is it his best ever? I wouldn’t go that far. Do I like it more than Yeezus? As a whole definitely yes, though I have to hand it to that last project for featuring more individual tracks of high quality than TLOP. The POD squad was divided between rating it 4-out-of-5 and 4.5-out-of-5, so that’s a good look as to how we see the album overall.

After careful listening throughout the week, sometimes doing back-to-back sessions in a given sitting, we’ve rounded up the tracks that stood out the most and which deserve being heralded as the best this album has to offer.

Look below and find what are our “Top 5” records on The Life Of Pablo. Continue Reading

Video: Kanye West Performs “Ultralight Beam” w/ Chance The Rapper, Kirk Franklin, The-Dream on ‘SNL’

posted by Oscar February 14, 2016

Kanye West made his long-anticipated return to Saturday Night Live last night, performing his latest material off newly released (that same night!) album The Life Of Pablo.

Yeezy first hit the SNL stage last night to perform “Highlights,” accompanied by Young Thug, The-Dream, Kelly Price, and El DeBarge. The big moment of the night came with song number 2, “Ultralight Beam,” which finally brought to life that Kanye-Chance The Rapper collab that Chicago has been waiting for for far too long. That performance took us to church, thanks to the additional help of Kirk Franklin, The-Dream, Price, and a Gospel choir! See that above.

Some comic relief to Kanye’s appearance on the show was provided via his rap battle with Kyle Mooney. Mooney had some bars, not very good ones but at least he had them, but Yeezy obliterated the poor fool. Check that out as well.

As we kick off the new year, Pusha T gives us the official visuals for his hot track “M.P.A.” The Kanye West & J.Cole produced song is right off of his latest album King Push: Darkest Before Dawn — The Prelude. The music video shows Pusha T partying on a video set with song featured artists A$AP Rocky and The-Dream. Though it seems pretty lit, where’s Yeezy???
