Video: See SZA Perform “The Weekend” and “Love Galore” on ‘SNL’

posted by Oscar December 10, 2017

SZA has made her Saturday Night Live debut as the musical guest with last night’s broadcast of the James Franco-hosted episode. The TDE singer appeared on SNL to deliver electric performances of her stand-out CTRL songs “The Weekend” and “Love Galore.”

SZA was backed by a gospel choir and a live band that, if my eyes serve me right, featured SoX member Stix and Carter Lang. This scintillating appearance was the icing on the cake for a year that really saw SZA blossom into a true star. Continue Reading

Event: Stix Presents: Jam Night January 31st @ Schubas

posted by Luis Hernandez January 24, 2017

One of my favorite Chicago events is back this month presented by Social Experiment Drummer Stix. Jam Night has some of the best vibes the city has to offer, as it gives a platform to local artists to link up and play together. Along with this, this event has been known to have very special guests from Chance The Rapper, NoName, and even Hannibal Burress. January’s show is hosted by Stix fellow Social Experiment member Peter Cottontale and sounds by DJ Elz. Don’t sleep, buy tickets here before they are sold out! Also, check out a performance by The O’My’s at a Jam night a few years ago below!

Video: Chance The Rapper/The Social Experiment Short Film – ‘SoXDay’ Dir. by Austin Vesely

posted by Oscar December 3, 2014

Happy SoXDay!

Our dude Austin Vesely connected once more with Chicago Great Chance The Rapper for SoXDay, a short film chronicling what it’s like to be on tour with Chano and his band the Social Experiment. Here we get to see all that goes on for the 23 hours in the day when they’re not on stage.

The backing act consists of Donnie Trumpet, Peter Cottontale, Stix, Nate Fox(‘s back) and Macie Stewart. It’s cool seeing Chance work with the crew as they prepare the lighting for the show as well as his commanding toast for his tour manager, but it’s the comedic parts, like the “TMZ moment” and the post-show conference, that make this entertaining.

The concert footage is particularly jarring though; the view from the stage and onto the crowd was an awesome reminder of just how much he’s grown in his still very short, ongoing career.

This only helps build the anticipation for Surf; coming soon. Shout-out to AV!

Chance The Rapper Reveals Details about ‘Surf’, His New Album w/The Social Experiment

Chance The Rapper - SoX
The dawn of The SoX is fast approaching…

Long-time POD favorite Chance The Rapper has revealed that this year he will be delivering the highly-anticipated follow-up to Acid Rap. In an exclusive conversation with Billboard, the Chicago native revealed that his new album, now with his band The Social Experiment (Donnie Trumpet, Peter Cottontale, Nate Fox, Stix), will be called ‘Surf’ and it will be delivered by the end of the year… for free!

Chano mentioned that this new project boasts production help from Frank Ocean and the legendary Rick Rubin, while acts like Migos and J. Cole will be featured as vocal collaborators. While that is plenty exciting news, we love the fact that Nico (Donnie Trumpet) will be the first to drop a Social Experiment project and that Chance will be a part of that.

More details are yet to come but in the meantime read the whole article over at Billboard to learn everything we know so far of what’s to come.

Stix Jam Pack 2

Check out the latest Jam Pack from one of Chicago’s best up-and-coming drummers, Stix. For those of you in the know, you might already be aware that Stix is a producer and the current drummer for Chance The Rapper, and he was the drummer for Kids These Days. This one was buried in my email but even though it may be a bit late, it’s worth sharing especially for those of you who visit our site and are into creating your own music and need some proper drums for your tracks.

The drum pack includes over 150 exclusive sonically vintage drum loops as well as an original song co-produced by Chris Barnett, which you can hear below. Buy the STIX Jam Pack Volume 2. Continue Reading
