POD Photos: SXSW 2017 – Day 2 feat. Spoon, Aminé, Jain

posted by Oscar March 21, 2017

Day 2 of SXSW was a hell of a busy one, filled with interviews during the day (stay tuned) and some dope shows at night. While the sun was still out and shining, we headed over to YouTube’s showcase where we caught impressive sets from JAIN and Aminé. Afterwards, we headed over to The Main at 6th St to take in one of Spoon’s hometown residencies this week for the festival, which included a performance from surprise special guests !!!.

Spoon for their part were spectacular at the venue at they temporarily renamed (nicknamed) Eno’s, playing a set that boasted songs from throughout their career, including the lead single/title track for their new album, “Hot Thoughts.” This band is something special, and getting the chance to see them in an intimate venue like this, is what makes SXSW a can’t-miss event.

Britt Daniel – “Never Let Me Down” (David Bowie Cover)

posted by Oscar January 12, 2016

David Bowie

The world was rocked with the news of the death of David Bowie, one of the most innovative, creative, eclectic and enigmatic artists we’ve ever seen. Tributes have been pouring in from fans and fellow artists alike, so it’s natural that some of these would express their love for the Starman via a tribute cover. Spoon’s Britt Daniel got in on the mix by releasing a cover of Bowie’s “Never Let Me Down.”

The band’s lead singer had written about Bowie’s passing the day before releasing his cover:

I went to bed early last night. Woke up at 3 and glanced at my phone. It’s 515 now and I’m realizing there’ll be no more sleep tonight. I was just saying last week isn’t it amazing how Bowie is still with us and we get another album from him? No other artist has meant as much to me personally or inspired my own songs as much. What a spirit. What an inspiration. What a shining example of the beauty that humanity can create. Bless him. -BD
