Video: Whitney – “No Woman”

posted by Oscar January 18, 2016

Exciting newcomers Whitney have released their new single/music video for “No Woman,” a surefire example of great things to come this year from this Chicago outfit. Drummer/vocalist Julien Ehrlich’s (ex-Unknown Mortal Orchestra) falsetto and the charming guitar work from ex-Smith Westerns member Max Kakacek make this one gorgeous song I will keep in constant rotation for the rest of the week (maybe even month!).

The visuals are quite simple, focusing on the band spending quality time in the wilderness with plenty of PBR, hand axes, and cherry bombs used as lighters.

Video: Smith Westerns – “Idol”

posted by Oscar June 27, 2013

Just days after releasing their third studio album, Soft Will, Smith Westerns have now unveiled their latest video for their track, “Idol.” By looking simply at the visuals at first glance, you’d think this clip is over 20 years old with its VHS-quality look and minimalist production but then you catch glimpses of iPhones and modern headphones.

Smith Westerns

Chicago band Smith Westerns’ sunny, pseudo psychedelic new sound found is now available for streaming. The warm music from Soft Will can be heard on NPR for a week prior to its official release (out June 25). From what’s been heard so far on previous releases of this album like  “Varsity” and “3AM Spiritual,” the new release is set to be a great one.

This is the follow-up to Smith Westerns’ 2011 breakthrough Dye It Blonde.

Smith Westerns – “3am Spiritual”

posted by Oscar May 20, 2013

Smith Westerns - Soft Will

Chicago band Smith Westerns have just released their latest track from their Soft Will project. “3am Spiritual” is a lot mellower than “Varsity” but the classic sound the band has adopted is more than present. The guitar lick, keyboards and even lead singer Cullen Omori’s vocals help it sound like something in between a David Bowie and a Mott The Hoople.

Video: Smith Westerns – “Varsity”

posted by Oscar May 8, 2013

Fellow Chicagoans, Smith Westerns, have released their new video for “Varsity” on Pitchforktv. Chicago music must be under the influence of acid with this new video featuring some trippy imagery while showing a young couple in love doing their thing, all set to the sweet melody of the track.

“Varsity” will appear on the band’s forthcoming LP, Soft Will, due June 25 through Mom + Pop.

Directed by Alan Del Rio Ortiz.

Official Lollapalooza Lineup 2013 [Update]

posted by Oscar April 1, 2013

Just days after 3-Day Passes were sold-out, a new Lollapalooza 2013 lineup has leaked. It looks legit, but then again, so many other leaked lineups have also looked like the real deal… And indeed it was legit. If (T)his is really this year’s lineup, (so) us at POD and the rest of the festival’s attendees will have to choose between headliners like The Cure, Mumford & Sons, The Killers, Nine Inch Nails, Phoenix, The Postal Service, Vampire Weekend and New Order.

Some of the other notable acts found on the list are Queens of the Stone Age, The Lumineers, Kendrick Lamar, Steve Aoki, Imagine Dragons, The Vaccines, 2 Chainz, Wavves, Alt-J, Jake Bugg and Foals. Our (Chicago) scene is well-represented on the list with the Orwells, Chance The Rapper, and Smith Westerns making the cut.

See the full, supposed official Lolla 2013 lineup after the jump. Daily breakdown is also now available.
