Video: Smashing Pumpkins Reunited w/ James Iha in Concert For the First Time in 16 Years

posted by Oscar March 27, 2016

A major moment took place last night in LA when Billy Corgan and his Smashing Pumpkins reunited in concert with founding member James Iha for the first time since their 2000 breakup.

The big surprise included performances of tracks from the band’s 1993 album Siamese Dream, backed by drummer Jimmy Chamberlain, leaving D’arcy Wretzky as the only original member missing from making this a complete reunion. Because it was Iha’s birthday, his former bandmates surprised him with a cake and singing the customary “Happy Birthday” for him with the help of the crowd.

See the band play “Mayonaise” above, and check out “Soma” and “Whir,” along with the birthday song below. Continue Reading

In this video the band is performing what would go on to become one of their classics, “Today.” The crowd was ecstatic and the Pumpkins were really reaching for the skies. It’s truly a beautiful thing. See that performance above.

Smashing Pumpkins - One And OnlySmashing Pumpkins are set to release Monuments to an Elegy any day now and today they delivered “One and All.” The song is a real throwback rocker, led by the thunderous drum work of Mötley Crüe’s Tommy Lee.

The Smashing Pumpkins – “Being Beige”

Smashing Pumpkins - Being Beige

The Smashing Pumpkins have finally released the first track off their forthcoming album, Monuments to an Elegy. The track is called “Being Beige” and it’s the latest bit of material to come out of the Kaleidyscope project. The music starts off low-key with just some acoustic guitar and a digital drum machine beat behind Billy Corgan’s vocals but it soon erupts as a full comes in. A good thing to note is that the drums come courtesy of Mötley Crüe’s Tommy Lee.

The new album is due out December 9th and it’s the latest part of Teargarden by Kaleidyscope, the super-album that began with 2010’s Songs for a Sailor and will conclude with 2015’s Day for Night, the last installment being 2012’s Oceania.

Hear it now below. Continue Reading

One of the fans (sundevil98) that did get into the intimate show from Red Bull Sound Select got some footage and posted it on youtube. Above you can see their clip of “Cherub Rock.”

Album Review: The Smashing Pumpkins- Oceania

posted by Oscar June 19, 2012

The Smashing Pumpkins - Oceania

It can be said that The Smashing Pumpkins may not be who they used to be, but after listening to their latest album that line mostly applies to their physical lineup rather than their sound. Their latest album, Oceania, is a very welcomed blast from the past with a batch of new songs that take us back to the band’s most prolific time. The new album is said to be a continuation of the band’s ongoing 44-song concept album, Teargarden by Kaleidyscope, was produced by bandleader Billy Corgan and Bjorn Thorsrud. Continue Reading
