On Sunday we were able to follow-up the incredible experience of being at Chance The Rapper’s Magnificent Coloring Day festival at U.S. Cellular with another super dope all-day show at Common’s AAHH! Fest, completing what was definitely one of the best weekends music fans in Chicago can ask for!

While there, we got to catch a ton of dope sets from some of the biggest and best in the game, including rising talents Vic Mensa and Sir the Baptist, legendary acts like The Roots, Ice Cube, and R. Kelly, and the present’s heavy-hitters in J. Cole and Common.

Our homie Johnny Fan had his lens handy and caught some of the best scenes from throughout the fest, which we’re too hyped to showcase and share with y’all here. Check out the gallery of AAHH! Fest 2016 below, featuring all of the artists mentioned above. Continue Reading

Chance The Rapper feat. R. Kelly & Jeremih – “Somewhere In Paradise”

posted by Oscar December 12, 2015

chance the rapper - somewhere-in-paradise

The time has finally arrived! Chance The Rapper became the first independent artist to feature as a musical guest on Saturday Night Live and for his first performance, the long-time POD favorite gave a proper premiere to “Somewhere In Paradise.” Not only did he perform that track on SNL, but in true Hip Hop hero fashion, Chano has released the track as a free download. This was a song we first heard two years ago when he performed it during his Social Experiment Tour on Thanksgiving back in 2013 (and we were there to share the experience with you all), so it’s dope to finally hear a studio version.

The updated features Jeremih and R. Kelly, making it a full Chi-town affair. Hear the song now below and stream it over at Apple Music.

Chance The Rapper did the unthinkable and brought out the legendary R. Kelly during his set just hours ago. It was an amazing set backed by his Social Experiment band with a little help from Lili K, Eryn Allen Kane, Maceo Haymes (The O’My’s) and others on backup vocals. Chance even played a handful of songs off 10Day for the hometown crowd. The set also featured some new dance routines which can be seen in the “I Am Very Very Lonely” video. We’ll update this post once footage becomes available. Check out R. Kelly performing “Ignition (Remix)” up above.

Update: Watch Chance perform “Chain Smoker” & “Paradise” below.

Update #2: Looks like MyMindsArchive has uploaded the full set to Chano’s set. Watch while you can below. Continue Reading

Phoenix feat. R. Kelly – “Trying To Be Cool” (Remix)

Phoenix R. Kelly - Trying To Be Cool

French band and Lolla 2013 headliners, Phoenix had hinted not long ago that they’d be possibly record something with Chicago’s own R. Kelly… And now we’ve got a collaboration between the two.

Kelly and Phoenix have remixed the latter’s “Trying To Be Cool,” keeping it’s core sound but with the Chicago R&B singer holding chorus duties and even adding a verse.

Video: Phoenix Brought Out R. Kelly to Perform “Ignition” at Coachella

The French and Chicago have another connection to add to the long list of collaborations (history reference!)… When it comes to these mega music festivals, you’re bound to witness some sort of magic happen and last night was no exception when Phoenix brought out R&B vet R. Kelly to perform his “Ignition.” The hit song was set to Phoenix’s own riff to their song “1901.” For as much as it is weird to think up this collaboration, it is justifiably cool.

Check out a part of that performance above thanks to YouTube user jelenaL for uploading this.
