Queens Of The Stone Age Share Video for “The Way You Used To Do”

posted by Oscar August 16, 2017

Queens Of The Stone Age have released their new music video for their sexy, danceable lead track “The Way You Used To Do.” The visual was conceived by QOTSA leader Joshua Homme and it was directed by Jonas Akerlund and produced by Serial Pictures. The video starts off in black and white as the band is jamming together in a small room, until Homme bursts through to another side where things come into color, wardrobe changes liven things up, and the frontman even delivers a stupendous dancing performance.

QOTSA’s seventh album, Villains, arrives August 25th on Matador Records. The album is available now for pre-order at http://smarturl.it/Villains.

Queens Of The Stone Age Unleash New Single “The Evil Has Landed”

posted by Oscar August 10, 2017

Queens Of The Stone Age have shared their newest single, “The Evil Has Landed.” The track is the latest cut from forthcoming album Villains, which was produced by Mark Ronson and co-produced by Mark Rankin and mixed by Alan Moulder.

“The Evil Has Landed” is a builder, starting off with this fantastically-distorted riff that brings to mind that “good ol’, American Rock & Roll” kind of swagger, which finally gives way to this killer, pacey finale that packs a Punk-tinged punch. This seriously kicks so much ass!

The song was unleashed with a premiere this morning as Zane Lowe’s World Record on Lowe’s Beats 1 show. Hear “The Evil Has Landed” below. Continue Reading

Recap: Iggy Pop at The Chicago Theatre

posted by Oscar April 9, 2016

Iggy Pop Chicago Theatre

Wednesday night in Chicago was all about Iggy Pop and his Post Pop Depression Tour, which was hitting the iconic Chicago Theatre.

It’s not often I get to go to shows just for the sake of enjoying the experience but I was lucky enough that this was one of them. The setting couldn’t have been better; you’d be hard-pressed to find a more beautiful venue than the Chicago Theatre, residing at the heart of the city, that can also be worthy of hosting a truly legendary music figure like Iggy Pop.

Pop’s set hit the ground running with a performance of one of his signature tracks, “Lust For Life,” the perfect appetizer of the dopeness that was still to come. Iggy may not be as energetic or as prolific with his stage antics anymore as he once was, but if there’s one thing I can assure to you is that throughout the night he looked like a man on a mission to prove that he’s someone that just won’t quit. Iggy Pop was relentless as frolicked around the stage hopping, and dancing, and gyrating. Pop was set to give us a clear sign that he is willing to continue to give it his all for as long as his body allows him. His heart desires Rock & Roll and the only way to satisfy that craving is by feeding him some time on a stage and under a spotlight.

The setlist was very heavy on the new album Post Pop Depression with several of our favorites making the cut, including the likes of “American Valhalla,” “Sunday” and “Gardenia.” Pop also drew from the solo work he released over the last 4 decades, bringing forth fan-favorites from all eras. There were many highlights that it would almost be unfair to only speak of a handful. “Gardenia,” “The Passenger,” and “China Girl” were played in succession, a trifecta of the best that Pop has to offer that spans several decades. The last of three was clearly one of the greatest moments on the Josh Homme front, who delivered a mighty guitar solo that would make you think you were actually witnessing a classic rock show. There was a moment during “China Girl” during which Iggy willingly gives up the spotlight to his partner Homme; at one point the pair share a glance as if Homme was asking Pop if he could shred harder and Pop very happily granting him that permission.

Find some fan footage from around the net below.

Capping things off with “Success” couldn’t be a more perfect selection. The upbeat nature of the song turned the classical venue into a real riot house and we were all just there to party! Iggy Pop is still with us and he’s a Punk rock treasure, but last Wednesday he proved that he’s not done yet and that he doesn’t need to be put away to be admired later yet.

Josh Homme Interviews Alex Turner For His Beats 1 Radio Show

posted by Oscar July 30, 2015

Josh Homme Alex Turner

Josh Homme, frontman of Queens Of The Stone Age, has a Beats 1 Radio show on Apple and on the latest episode of the so-called “The Alligator Hour with Josh Homme,” Homme’s special guest was none other than Alex Turner. The Arctic Monkeys lead singer was introduced to the show at about the 30:18 mark as an “origami teacher, hand model, and international Monopoly champion.”

Fast forward to the 39:00 mark, after playing some tunes the pair begin talking about names for bars (The Dumb Fox, Pre-Hab, Alternative Endings), before hitting on the subject of crafting songs and we hear about how Turner doesn’t typically write lyrics when he’s recording a song.

Listen to the whole episode on Apple Music.

For the final post of our year-end list series we name the Dopest Live Shows of 2014. The best thing about making this list is that we get to look back at the year that was and have it serve as a little reminder that we got to experience some excellent concerts. Much like every year since we’ve been in existence, we largely attended shows in our home city of Chicago, but this 2K14 we had the chance to attend a couple of festivals in cities like Austin, Minneapolis and NYC, that wound up being some of the best experiences ever.

From club gigs to world-renowned major festivals, here are the Dopest Live Shows of 2014. Continue Reading

Video: Queens Of The Stone Age Reunite w/Nick Oliveri for Halloween Gig

posted by Oscar November 1, 2014

The much-promised, hugely anticipated reunion between Queens Of The Stone Age and former bassist Nick Oliveri finally took place during the band’s LA Halloween Show. Oliveri had been fired by frontman Josh Homme ten years ago but the friendship was still there, so the possibility of this happening was always there so this was just a matter of time.

The reunited former band-mates played a handful of tracks last night, mostly focusing on Oliveri-sung tracks from the QOTSA collection like “Another Love Song” (shown above) and “Gonna Leave You.”
