Video: Jack White Brings Out Q-Tip at Madison Square Garden Show

posted by Oscar January 31, 2015

Jack White returned to play the hallowed stage of Madison Square Garden last night for the first time in almost a decade to put on a show worthy of the setting. Just like he did in Nashville just days before, White had a major surprise waiting for the encore, stunning the crowd with a previously inconceivable collaboration with A Tribe Called Quest master Q-Tip.

The Guitar God and the Rap God took the stage together to perform White’s “That Black Bat Licorice” and then proceeding to perform Tribe classic “Excursions.” The whole thing was stunning, to say the least. This was just another part of the Hip Hop performances that made waves last night, since Run The Jewels’ live collabo with Zach De La Rocha in the opening slot was also a big moment.

Largely thanks to this very collaboration, last night NYC was the center of the universe of dopeness. See that performance above.

Album Stream: D’Angelo and The Vanguard – ‘Black Messiah’

posted by Oscar December 15, 2014

DAngelo and The Vanguard - Black Messiah

After 14 years of absence, D’Angelo has returned with Black Messiah (see what I did there?). The R&B crooner made use of an intimate listening party to unleash the new project onto the world, the record’s co-producer Questlove given the task of  pressing play for the lucky few in attendance to end the wait.

Credited as D’Angelo and The Vanguard, Black Messiah is 12-tracks deep with features including the likes of Questlove and Q-Tip. The music is the rich, soulful R&B that made him an icon and the themes found in the lyrics range from the political/socially-conscious kind to his signature voice that may very well be responsible for perhaps millions of children being born in the 21st Century.

Old-school Hip-Hop heavyweights and former members of the legendary group A Tribe Called Quest, Busta Rhymes and Q-Tip, teamed up to rap over Kendrick Lamar’s beat for “Poetic Justice.”

The track is essentially an homage to Janet Jackson. Busta Rhymes and Tip think back to collaborations with Janet and Tip reminisces about sharing a kiss with her. The track will be featured on The Conglomerate‘s Catastrophic mixtape, due out tomorrow.
