FC Barcelona Unveil 2015-16 Home and Away Kits, by Nike

FC Barcelona 2015-16

FC Barcelona’s 2015-16 Home and Away kits have been unveiled and they both feature bold redesigns by Nike. The new La Liga champions will be defending their league title with their traditional Blaugrana home kits now sporting those colors in horizontal stripes and it features the Senyera flag is embedded into the collar in a golden yellow trim with four thin red stripes around the outside of the shirt’s streamlined and modern V-neck. Horizontal stripes have previously been worn by FCB basketball, rugby and athletics teams, but this is the first time in the club’s long and rich history that the football team will don horizontal stripes.

The Away kits are inspired by the iconic Senyera flag, which itself is so central to the culture of the city and the club. The new Away shirt is predominately golden yellow, a hue long associated with Catalan unity. On the back, four vertical red stripes on a golden yellow background run from the shoulders to the hem. This design is inspired in the way that FC Barcelona fans wear the Senyera around their necks as a cape in celebration and support, expressing their love for both Catalonia and their club.

The new FC Barcelona home kit is available to buy from nike.com/fcb and in stores from May 26; the away kit will be available to buy from June 25. See a gallery of the kits below. Continue Reading

US Away Kit 2014

Today saw the unveiling of the new Away kit that the US Men’s & Women’s National Teams will be using in 2014. Designed by Nike, the new kit is a bold change from what we were used to seeing in recent memory for the U.S.A. The shirt sports a modern crew-neck collar with three bands the color of the American flag.

The base color of the jersey and the cuff of the sleeves feature a prominent red. The upper torso and top sleeves include a bold blue tone, and a white chest band extends over the middle of both sleeves.

To help with the announcement of the new shirt, the U.S. Soccer Federation got help from members of the team like Clint Dempsey and Sydney Leroux, former US international Alexi Lalas, and non-soccer stars like football players Andrew Luck and Ndamukong Suh; skateboarders Eric Koston and Sean Malto; track and field gold medalist Allyson Felix; music producer Diplo; musicians HAIM; and filmmaker Spike Lee.

The new U.S. National Team Away Kit is available at Nike stores and on nike.com beginning April 1. See more pics below. Continue Reading

Netherlands Away 2014 4

Nike Football/Soccer has unveiled the 2014 Away Kit The Netherlands will be wearing at the World Cup with the help of Joël Veltman, Davy Klaassen and Jean-Paul Boëtius at Westergasfabriek in Amsterdam. The new jersey features a unique and very dope design influenced by Dutch culture.

The shirt has:

“… an isometric grid pattern of interlocking chevrons that start at the top as bright blue and gradually become darker, ending as imperial purple at the hem.

The pattern has a glow and depth, representing the prominence of water in Dutch life and the country’s landscape.

The blue in the pattern signifies the Dutch royal family and the color of the cross that appears in their official flag.”

This one, paired with the home kit, assures that The Netherlands will undoubtedly be one of the best national squads at the World Cup. See more pics below. Continue Reading

Nike Croatia Home Kit 2014_3

Nike Football’s (Nike Soccer for those of us stateside) rolling out more World Cup kits for the national teams that they will be equipping this year. Now it’s Croatia’s turn to show off their new shirts. The home jersey features their iconic red-and-white checkered pattern as seen in their flag on their nation’s coat of arms, with red sleeves and white trim. The shirt also pays homage to Croatia’s birth as a new football nation in 1990, sporting a look very similar to the one worn by the team when they debuted in a match against the US that year.

The away kit is bright blue with the Croatian red-and-white checks running along the shoulders down to the sleeves. Honestly, this might just be the best pair of of kits any team will be rocking at Brazil this summer.

125th Anniversary Dutch Home Kit Strootman

Not only is 2014 the year we get another edition of the FIFA World Cup, but it also marks the 125th anniversary of the founding of The Netherlands’ soccer federation. The new design not only features a new look for the shirt itself, but it also comes with a whole new crest to represent the KNBV (Royal Dutch Football Association). The crest for the 2014 kit is a white lion that’s meant to symbolize a new era in Dutch soccer and, according to the Nike release, also represents “the team’s core values of simplicity, honor and unity.”

The V-neck collar is a classic look for a soccer jersey and, in overall terms, it is a beautiful shirt fit for one of the best teams in the sport. I honestly would love to add this one to my collection.
