Must Listen: “A Layover” By Mick Jenkins

posted by Alejandro Hernandez August 30, 2017

It’s been a relatively quiet 2017 for Mick Jenkins. His most recent appearance on a track was his exceptional guest spot on Mulatto Beats’s “Guilty Automatic” last month, and the latest single he dropped himself was the GoldLink featured “Pressed For Time” five months ago. The Chicago rapper has been in quite the layover indeed. After tweeting about how he’s working on a new album for the last few weeks though, he finally blessed our ears with a new single.

Whether or not “A Layover” is a loosie or is a single off his new album is unknown yet, but as long as Mick is dropping new music, it honestly doesn’t matter. This song is a classic Mick Jenkins staple, with an absolutely heavenly mellow drum beat produced by THEMPeople and Mick just dropping bars for two straight minutes.

With slick humble brags like “Silver spoon, I don’t need no clout” and “The driver hit me with “enchante/I think he know we eating good like them small ass plates,” Mick reminds audiences that he’s still just as good as ever, which could spell trouble for the competition. As he says in the closing lines of the song, he’s “7 hours ahead, n—a all y’all late.” If “A Layover” is indeed just a sample of what we should expect from the Southside rapper in the coming months, then it’s time that we start including his name more regularly in conversations talking about the best rapper in Chicago.

Kehlani – Undercover (DEVAULT Remix)

posted by Ellena Rodriguez March 30, 2017

To start off this gloomy morning, we thought we could give you some new music with some dope new artists. Orange County producer, Devault, is showing us all that 2017 is his year as he has been dropping nothing but huge remixes. So far this year, he has dropped dope mixes for artists like Rihanna and AlunaGeorge, and now the electronic artist is making his POD debut with his latest mix on Kehlani’s “Undercover”. When talking about the track, the young mixer shared…

“Undercover was my favorite song from her recent album and it was awesome to get the stems from their camp and be able to put a completely different twist on this. I tried to challenge myself with sound design on this one and I’m really happy with its result.”

Watch the Trailer for “Since They Left Us” as The Avalanches Hint At New Album

posted by Rosario Edwards May 25, 2016

This is not a drill,

The Avalanches appear to be dropping hints at their first album release since 2000’s “Since I Left You”, their certified classic that helped lay the foundation of modern sample based music.

While no official release has been mentioned, the group has released a teaser for a documentary chronicling the time since their auspicious debut. The film is called “Since They Left Us: What Ever Happened to The Avalanches”, and seems to be hinting that their long awaited sophomore album may finally be released. However, along with the follow up to their first album, they are both still listed as “Coming Soon”.

Still no reason not to get excited though, right?

Despite all the drama that arose these past few weeks surrounding the Oakland songstress Kehlani, she is making her return with a new song titled “24/7”. Kehlani opens up on the DZL produced track saying it’s okay not to be okay followed by her ongoing verse “I don’t know nobody who smiles at everybody 24/7.”

French Montana, Kanye West & Nas link up for “Figure It Out”

French just dropped a new project; Wave Gods which was hosted by Max B.  “Figure It Out” was my favorite song. I’ve always thought French was really dope, he’s always been consistently working on music and dropping some dope tracks. I love the Kanye & Nas features as well. It was dope to hear all these artists on a track together. French  pays a tribute to those he’s lost and reminds us there are just some things we can’t figure out.

What do you think about the collab?

Have you listened to Wave Gods? What track did you like?

French will be coming out with a new project “Mac & Cheese” soon.

I’m wondering what other dope collabs French will have Continue Reading
