Pursuit of Dopeness loves Jamila Woods… We’ve been waiting for this album for awhile now & we’re so excited it’s out for everyone to hear. Listening to this album feels completely magical. Woods writes odes to Chicago.. healing.. love & gives a voice to those in pain. Jamila reminds you how beautiful it is to be Black. Wood’s has made an album  completely full of beautiful songs. I’m completely in awe of this album. It’s raw, real and completely empowering. This album is so important for the culture right now. Wood’s is a true poet.. activist and beautiful musician.

“I won’t let you criticize my city like my skin.. it’s so pretty. If you don’t like it.. just leave it alone..”

-“LSD” ft. Chance The Rapper.

Jamila has stepped out & showed us she’s so much more than a guest on a song.

The album features from some of Chicago’s favorites such as NoName.. Chance The Rapper..Saba..Donnie Trumpet..& features production by Odd Couple ..Peter CottonTale & Nate Fox!

Jamila on “HEAVN”
HEAVN is about black girlhood, about Chicago, about the people we miss who have gone on to prepare a place for us somewhere else, about the city/world we aspire to live in. I hope this album encourages listeners to love themselves and love each other. For black and brown people, caring for ourselves and each other is not a neutral act. It is a necessary and radical part of the struggle to create a more just society. Our healing and survival are essential to the fight.

Please listen to “HEAVN” Continue Reading

We can’t stop talking about Chance the Rapper’s Pitchfork performance.

posted by JuicyJackie July 22, 2015

pitchfork crowd

When Pitchfork tickets first went on sale I wasn’t really sold on getting them. Well honestly, I had no cash, I just paid my rent. I wasn’t really bothered about it either. As Pitchfork got closer and closer and more talk about it got around, I was actually pretty mad I didn’t cop tickets. I kept saying to myself “It’s cool there’s only a few people on the lineup I want to see anyway & I’ve already seen Vic and Chance multiple times.” As many times as I’ve seen both acts I knew I wanted to see them both again and that I had to go. Vic performed Saturday night and I didn’t get to see it. I did attend his Pitchfork after party at the Virgin Hotels. The security at Virgin was really strict, which is completely understandable but it was hard to even get into the show. It was still a pretty great after party at a very nice establishment. So since I already missed Saturday.. I ultimately assumed I wouldn’t be at Pitchfork Sunday for Chance’s performance.

Well sometimes, social media isn’t so bad, I saw a tweet that said “Anybody want to come to Pitchfork?” I jumped right on it. At 6:30 I got in my car and headed over. I got pretty lucky to score a VIP pass so last minute. Chance didn’t go on till 8:30 so I mingled and filled up on free beer. There was even CHANCE THE RAPPER BEER!! (It was delicious, by the way.) It seemed like everyone in Chicago was there to see Chance close out the green stage. I saw so many people decked out in Chance gear. I decided it was time to settle for a spot and get ready for the show. Continue Reading

Video: Chance The Rapper/The Social Experiment Short Film – ‘SoXDay’ Dir. by Austin Vesely

posted by Oscar December 3, 2014

Happy SoXDay!

Our dude Austin Vesely connected once more with Chicago Great Chance The Rapper for SoXDay, a short film chronicling what it’s like to be on tour with Chano and his band the Social Experiment. Here we get to see all that goes on for the 23 hours in the day when they’re not on stage.

The backing act consists of Donnie Trumpet, Peter Cottontale, Stix, Nate Fox(‘s back) and Macie Stewart. It’s cool seeing Chance work with the crew as they prepare the lighting for the show as well as his commanding toast for his tour manager, but it’s the comedic parts, like the “TMZ moment” and the post-show conference, that make this entertaining.

The concert footage is particularly jarring though; the view from the stage and onto the crowd was an awesome reminder of just how much he’s grown in his still very short, ongoing career.

This only helps build the anticipation for Surf; coming soon. Shout-out to AV!

Chance The Rapper Reveals Details about ‘Surf’, His New Album w/The Social Experiment

posted by Oscar October 21, 2014

Chance The Rapper - SoX
The dawn of The SoX is fast approaching…

Long-time POD favorite Chance The Rapper has revealed that this year he will be delivering the highly-anticipated follow-up to Acid Rap. In an exclusive conversation with Billboard, the Chicago native revealed that his new album, now with his band The Social Experiment (Donnie Trumpet, Peter Cottontale, Nate Fox, Stix), will be called ‘Surf’ and it will be delivered by the end of the year… for free!

Chano mentioned that this new project boasts production help from Frank Ocean and the legendary Rick Rubin, while acts like Migos and J. Cole will be featured as vocal collaborators. While that is plenty exciting news, we love the fact that Nico (Donnie Trumpet) will be the first to drop a Social Experiment project and that Chance will be a part of that.

More details are yet to come but in the meantime read the whole article over at Billboard to learn everything we know so far of what’s to come.

Tommy Exx feat. Liv – “Smyle” [prod. Nate Fox]

posted by Oscar April 28, 2014

TommyExx - Smyle

This song’s a heartbreaker. Tommy Exx hooked up with producer Nate Fox and singer Olivia “Liv” Thompson for the emotional, “Smyle.”

The Soundcloud description says it all:

Tommy is forced to carry on without the love of his life, Rachel Smylie, he brings to the world ‘Smyle’ set to be on Tommy’s ‘Mr. Exx’ mixtape due this summer. Some handle death easier than others, and some are submerged under the sorrow. Life isn’t easy and some of the deepest secrets to life such as death are unexplained. It leaves us in a dark mystery, and sometimes traumatized. Smyle, because without our family and friends, life is meaningless.
