Ice Cube Soundset 2015

This is one of the biggest years for N.W.A. since their original run, thanks to the release of biopic Straight Outta Compton and Dr. Dre’s release of its accompanying album aptly titled, Compton.

Today we continue with more news from the group, coming via an original demo of Ice Cube doing “Fuck Tha Police” solo surfacing online.

On this version we hear previously unknown bars from Cube that go like this:

Stereotypes of a brother like me
Down with the n*ggas from the CPT posse
They callin’ me a thug ’cause I carry a piece
That’s why I say, ‘Fuck police!’

posted by Oscar August 13, 2015

Today we get a legendary moment in Hip Hop when Billboard got Kendrick Lamar to conduct an interview with legendary group N.W.A. The conversation lasted just short of half an hour and saw Lamar talk to the surviving members of N.W.A for their first magazine cover together in over 20 years.

The interview touched on a number of topics including how their new biographical Straight Outta Compton was made, how the group changed the history of music, and what these legends have to say about the current crop of artists holding the reins of the genre they helped go mainstream, and many other fascinating topics.

Check out the icons above or go to Billboard to see that clip/read the transcribed interview.

Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame

Here are the latest nominees for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame’s Class of 2015: Green Day, Nine Inch Nails, N.W.A, the Smiths, Lou Reed and Sting. The acts with the most votes will be announced toward the end of the year and will be inducted on April 18th, 2015 at a ceremony in Cleveland, Ohio.

For a third consecutive year, voting is open to the public which will be counted alongside that of the artists, historians and music industry insiders of the Rock Hall voting body. From now until December 9th, fans can vote on RollingStone.com for the nominees they’d like to see inducted. The top five acts will comprise a “fan’s ballot” that will count as one of the ballots that determine the Class of 2015.

The “class of 2014” was legendary as it saw Nirvana inducted in their first year of eligibility and KISS finally making the cut (after 15 years of being eligible) thanks to an overwhelming support from its fans (myself included) via the public vote option.

Well now, get to voting!

Nirvana, KISS, NWA Nominated for Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Class of 2014

Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame

Rolling Stone has announced the nominees for the 2014 class of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Nirvana, KISS (finally!), The Replacements, Hall and Oates, Paul Butterfield Blues Band, Chic, Deep Purple, Peter Gabriel, LL Cool J, N.W.A., Link Wray, the Meters, Linda Ronstadt, Cat Stevens, Yes and the Zombies.

For the second consecutive year, the public gets to vote alongside the artists, historians and music industry insiders of the Rock Hall voting body. From now until December 10th, fans can vote on RollingStone.com for the nominees they’d like to see inducted. The top five acts will comprise a “fan’s ballot” that will count as one of the more than 600 ballots that determine the Class of 2014.

The top vote-getters will be inducted in April at a ceremony in New York City so make sure you vote for your favorites from this list.

Nirvana has made the list on its first year of eligibility, making them the only act on this list with that highlight. KISS on the other hand had been omitted from the list of nominees every year since they were first eligible back in ’99. Two of my oldest T-shirts (which I still own and regularly wear) have these two bands’ respective logos emblazoned on them and I couldn’t be more glad about this news. Now, to see who gets in.
