#TheDopeness: Things To Do This Weekend (2/23-2/26)

posted by Alex February 22, 2017

The weekend’s almost here and it’s time to make plans. Let us help you make those plans a little easier. With so much going on in the city every week, here are a handful of events that you may want to consider attending. If you got an event worth going to, @ me bruh!

Dally Auston – 2/23 @ Chop Shop: You really need to be at Chop Shop on Thursday night. Dally Auston will be blessing the stage along with a bunch of his homies. If you do one thing at all this weekend, make sure it’s going to this show. #SaveMoney #WSGTM

Stefan Ponce & Friends – 2/24 @ East Room: Stefan Ponce. East Room. Do I really have to say anything else aside from, get there nice and early? I don’t think so. You’re welcome.

Savoy – 2/25 @ Chop Shop: We’ve featured Savoy and their latest project called Tomorrow Today, Pt. 1. If you copped a ticket on time, you’re definitely in for a good show.

The Dream – 2/25 @ The Metro: Maybe you messed up on Valentine’s day and didn’t send that special person flowers or candy to the job. Or maybe the sidepiece doesn’t feel enough love from you. Whatever the case may be, The Dream at The Metro can certainly fix those feelings. Don’t play ya’self again, tickets are still available!

Another House Party – 2/25 @ Beauty Bar: Bring your 90’s gear and best “running man” skills to Beauty Bar on Saturday. You won’t regret it!

Stix Presents Jam Night – 2/26 @ Schuba’s: The awesome thing about this monthly party is that you’ll never know who comes out. Last month Chance made an appearance. Maybe two months in a row? Only way to find out is by heading over to Schuba’s. Tickets are here.

[RECAP] D.R.A.M. headlines the Metro!

posted by Tali February 15, 2017

It was quite the night at the Metro, although every night at the Metro serves us quite well. The letters D-R-A-M topped the headlines right on North Clark Street, followed below with even bigger letters that read “SOLD OUT.” All while a line full of noticeably excited music fans awaited outside to enter for a night to remember.

To start the night off, the wonderful and soothing tones from River Tiber filled the air. Slowly but surely, the venue piled up with more and more to witness. The young, talented Toronto artist showcased his unique sound, serenading the crowd with every song; down to every note and chord. His performance was well planned out and smoothly executed as he ended his set with his song “West.”

If you aren’t familiar with this young man’s work, you better get with it. Continue Reading

Alessia Cara’s Know it All Tour Chicago Stop [@alessiacara]

Before seeing Alessia I was already super into what she had going on. I loved the flawless kick back look and how she topped it all off with her beautiful voice. I love that jazzy kick her voice & the band had. “Here” was a jam me and my girls could relate to. Everything about her & her album was beautifully put together. The uplifting powerful words and that amazing voice made me want to see her live.

The show was opened by LEAF, Craig Stickland and Kevin Garrett.  I was happy I was introduced by those acts. I’ve never heard of them before but they all gave me a reason to follow them and look for their music further.

Alessia captivated the stage upon entrance. She had a great energy on stage. She danced around in her converse to every side of the stage to engage with as many fans as possible. You could tell she was geniuely happy to be there and the audience was to. One of the reasons I was excited to see her live was to actually hear her voice. Her vocals left me completely impressed. Alessia’s band was also very very good. The jazzy kick added to the music is one of my favorite things about the whole act. Alessia ended the show with her debut hit single “Here.” One of my favorites, everyone LOVED it.

I’ll admit I wasn’t a die hard Alessia Cara fan going into the show.. but watching her performance live definitely made me way more of a fan. I was happy to see her performing and happy for her to be on tour.  The “Know it All” SOLD OUT tour stop in Chicago was amazing to see.

Recap: ScHoolboy Q Live at the Metro

posted by Alberto April 23, 2014

ScHoolboy Q’s Oxymoron Tour hit Chicago’s Metro last night and we were on hand to watch the sold-out show. The opening acts for ScHoolboy were some of the best we have seen at any recent show hands down. Audio Push, Vince Staples and Isaiah Rashad all did their part in getting the crowd ready for the man of the night, ScHoolboy Q. My favorite of the opening acts had to be Isaiah Rashad. His stage presence was great and he had the crowd attentive and participating from the start of his set to the very last song.

ScHoolboy Q hit the stage around 30 minutes after Isaiah’s and set things off right with a performance of the Oxymoron standout, “Fuck LA.” Q ran through a majority of Oxymoron, but found some time to perform gems off of Habits & Contradictions like “There He Go” and “Blessed.” The highlight of the show had to be his performance of his last two songs, “Yay Yay” and “Man Of The Year.” Everyone in the crowd knew what the closing song was going to be before they walked in the venue and fans in the pit were at their craziest during that performance. Check some footage of Q performing “Man Of The Year” below. We’re looking forward to Q’s return to Chicago in July for the Pitchfork’s Music Festival. Continue Reading

Action Bronson Blue Chips 2 Tour In Chicago

posted by Alex January 25, 2014

Action Bronson Blue Chips 2 Tour

As soon as we heard about Action Bronson coming through Chicago’s Metro for his Blue Chips 2 tour, we had to cop tickets as soon as we could. We’ve caught Bronson at SoundSet as well as the last time he was in Chicago at Reggie’s, both times were great and we expected nothing less this time around. As we witnessed with the original Blue Chips project, whenever Bronson and Party Supplies get together magic does seem to happen. Bronson has a great relationship with Chicago’s talent (Closed Sessions, Alex Wiley, Chance The Rapper, Thelonious Martin to name a few), and we were excited to see if he would happen to bring any local talent up on stage. Recap: Jake Bugg Live at the Metro (Chicago)

posted by Oscar September 22, 2013

Last night I went out to legendary Chicago music venue, “The Metro,” to check out up and coming superstar Jake Bugg play live. The 19-year old singer-songwriter from Nottingham, UK has burst into the scene in great fashion and has already performed in major music festivals including this year’s Lollapalooza. This guy was worth the buzz he was generating and so I jumped at the chance of seeing him for a second month in a row, now in the more fitting confines of a club stage.

Video: Chance the Rapper – Acid Rap Live

posted by Oscar June 3, 2013

Late last month, Memorial Day weekend, Chance The Rapper played two back-to-back sold-out shows in Chicago’s legendary venue, the so-called Metro. Austin Vesely was present to capture some of the best moments and he’s put together this video. On-stage performance clips were stitched together with behind the scenes shots to give you a good luck into those awesome nights.

I got some clips of his performances from the first night but they look nothing like this, so send your props to Austin Vesely and the rest of the crew for this.

For those of you in NYC, don’t miss his performances at Northside Festival on June 15th and Hot 97’s SOB’s on June 20th.

Recap: Chance The Rapper Live at the Metro (5.25.13)

posted by Oscar May 26, 2013

Since last night there was a Chano show, as per usual, we were there to see him perform. The venue was none other than the same venue that grew to be a real icon for the city as it famously hosted bands like Nirvana and the Smashing Pumpkins in the early 90’s, the Metro. This night it was home to the new music of Chicago’s youth, fronted by one of the shining stars of this city’s thriving Hip Hop generation. Continue Reading

Recap: Chance The Rapper’s AcidRapLive Show at Metro

posted by Alberto November 24, 2012

Chance The Rapper’s first headlining show since his show at Lincoln Hall back in June took place last night (11/23/12) at the Metro. Chance had been promoting the show very heavily and even went to high schools all across the city to promote the big event. All of the hard work paid off as the show officially sold-out hours before the doors opened last night. Vic Lloyd and Milo & Otis opened up the night with some great sets and the addition of elder statesman Mikey Rocks gave the night a great mix of new and veteran Chicago talent. Continue Reading
