Video: Foo Fighters Send Off David Letterman on Last ‘Late Show’ with a Performance of “Everlong”

posted by Oscar May 21, 2015

Last night saw the end of an era with the final episode of Late Show with David Letterman. The farewell episode aired on Wednesday night and for his final sendoff, Letterman chose his favorite band to play his favorite song.

The Foo Fighters performed their classic track “Everlong,” serving as the (perfect) score to a montage of some of the best moments in the history of Letterman and of the comedian’s 33-year career on “late night.” The “David Letterman Highlights” included every kind of major guest that Letterman has interviewed or has had as musical guests including Presidents (Carter, Bush, Clinton, and Obama), comedians (Bill Murray, Andy Kauffman, Gilda Radner, Jay Leno), actors (Tom Hanks, Paul Newman, Michael Keaton) and musicians (Foo Fighters, KISS, Kanye) plus every famous comedic moment/remote in between. It was glorious and for anyone who got to revisit those famous moments they saw way back when would instantly get a knot in their throat.

Check that out above and see Letterman’s final “Thank You and Good Night” below. #ThanksDave. Continue Reading

Video: Lauryn Hill – “Something” [The Beatles Cover] (Live on ‘Letterman’)

posted by Oscar February 8, 2014

For the final installment of “Beatles Tribute Week” on The Late Show with David Letterman, the show featured none other than Lauryn Hill covering “Something.” Written by “the quiet Beatle,” this song has been considered one of the best ever (definitely in my top 10 list) and even Frank Sinatra thought it to be the band’s best love song. Lauryn Hill’s version was pretty good as well. Compared to the original, this cover had a sped up tempo and even feels like it has a faint Caribbean twist. See that above.

The week-long tribute was celebrating the 50th anniversary of The Beatles’ arrival in America with performances from Broken Bells, Sting, Flaming Lips, and Lenny Kravitz at The Ed Sullivan Theater, where The Beatles first played to American audiences and is now the studio where Letterman currently tapes. Don’t miss the two-hour special, The Night That Changed America: A Grammy Salute to the Beatles, which airs Sunday at 8 p.m. EST on CBS featuring Alicia Keys, John Legend, Gary Clark, Jr., and John Mayer are some of the big stars set to perform that evening.

Video: She & Him Perform “Never Wanted Your Love” on ‘Letterman’

posted by Oscar May 11, 2013

America’s collective crush on Ms. Zooey Deschanel can keep on growing because there’s more evidence she’s also a pretty good music performer. Deschanel and M. Ward make up the duo She & Him who have just released their fourth album (“Volume 3,” released May 7th on Merge) and went on Letterman to perform the lead single.

The song is “Never Wanted Your Love,” which the duo performed greatly with a full backing band that also included four violinists and backup singers. See the clip above.

Video: Yeah Yeah Yeahs Perform “Sacrilege” on ‘Letterman’

posted by Oscar April 6, 2013

Not sure how I missed this, but the Yeah Yeah Yeahs went on Letterman to perform “Sacrilege” with Karen O doing her best Elvis impression (check out that jumpsuit!) and there was even a full choir to accompany them for the second half of the song (just like in the studio version). The performance was powerful and it really demonstrated the ability that this New York band has to put on a good show. Look out for the album, Mosquito, when it drops April 16.

Tyler, The Creator, accompanied by Domo Genesis and Earl Sweatshirt, went on Letterman to perform “Rusty.” From hearing Letterman laugh after introducing Earl Sweatshirt to Tyler and Earl’s Four Tops-lite styled mini choreography, this late night appearance is a definite must-see.

Stand-up comedian, Gary Gulman took to Late Show with David Letterman to do a set in which he talks about the movie Rocky, why it makes sense Greece went bankrupt, and how those damn French people (sorry French followers of POD) mess with us by way of yogurt. Check it out above.

Wavves brought the rocking soft-loud 90’s nostalgia sound to Late Show and played “Demon to Lean On” for David Letterman and his viewers. To greet the band after the performance, the veteran show host calls it “tremendous,” and he was spot-on! See it above.
