Video: KISS Peforms at the Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade

posted by Oscar November 30, 2014

KISS was recruited to play the 88th Annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade and it was quite the highlight for everyone who saw it. And while those of us who got to see it enjoyed that the Rock & Roll Hall Of Famers were even included in the festivities, the band itself had their issues with it.

Co band leader Paul Stanley later tweeted (below) that the band was screwed during their appearance, but there weren’t many things that stood out during the 2-minute plus performance, however Ultimate Classic Rock voiced their opinion as to what could have led to his disapproval. Check out the performance of “Rock & Roll All Nite” above.

Video: Slow Club – “The Pieces”

Here’s the latest video for Slow Club’s “The Pieces.” The cool thing about this one is that it’s a semi KISS tribute, with the visuals showing some fans (instead of the band’s Charles Watson or Rebecca Taylor) putting on the iconic makeup, fake wigs and everything else to play a club gig with crappy fireworks and all.

The music has a great, upbeat sound that goes along perfectly with the endearing clip. See it above.

KISS Plays Mini Concert On ‘The Tonight Show’

posted by Oscar April 12, 2014

On the week when KISS finally was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame, KISS may not have reunited in full makeup for us fans to see them perform one more time at their induction but they did, however, put on a mini show in full iconic garb for The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. Original KISS members Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley performed with the other two members of the band’s current lineup, Tommy Thayer and Eric Singer, KISS Klassics like “Deuce,” “Hotter Than Hell/Firehouse,” “King Of The Night Time World” and my all-time favorite of them all, “Black Diamond” (above). Video: Mystery (The Orwells + Criminal Hygiene) – “Love Gun” Live in Portland

posted by Oscar March 28, 2014

If you’re anything like myself growing up, KISS was (still is) one of my favorite bands and the movie Detroit Rock City was one of my favorites (for obvious reasons) as well. It looks like The Orwells and Criminal Hygiene must’ve shared that appreciation for the latter when they performed KISS’s “Love Gun” together as Mystery, the same band name as the group created by the guys in the movie.

Sure this may not be as theatrical as how the originals would play it, but it’s awesome to see/hear a gritty cover of a KISS classic.

KISS for John Varvatos Spring/Summer 2014

posted by Oscar January 11, 2014

The fashion brand John Varvatos has called on none other than music icons, KISS for their Spring/Summer 2014 campaign. In the video above, you see exactly why Varvatos called on the band as co-founders Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley apply their legendary makeup and talk about their mission as members of KISS. The video also shows the band performing at the intimate confines of 315 Bowery (formerly the site of CBGB) in a secret show for 200 guests.

For anyone who’s not a long-time fan of the band such as myself, this campaign also draws a bit of inspiration from the band’s 1975 album, Dressed To Kill. To further justify the band’s legendary status, they’ll be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame this year. Badass band for a badass clothing brand is an instant success in my book.

Nirvana, KISS, NWA Nominated for Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Class of 2014

posted by Oscar October 15, 2013

Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame

Rolling Stone has announced the nominees for the 2014 class of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Nirvana, KISS (finally!), The Replacements, Hall and Oates, Paul Butterfield Blues Band, Chic, Deep Purple, Peter Gabriel, LL Cool J, N.W.A., Link Wray, the Meters, Linda Ronstadt, Cat Stevens, Yes and the Zombies.

For the second consecutive year, the public gets to vote alongside the artists, historians and music industry insiders of the Rock Hall voting body. From now until December 10th, fans can vote on RollingStone.com for the nominees they’d like to see inducted. The top five acts will comprise a “fan’s ballot” that will count as one of the more than 600 ballots that determine the Class of 2014.

The top vote-getters will be inducted in April at a ceremony in New York City so make sure you vote for your favorites from this list.

Nirvana has made the list on its first year of eligibility, making them the only act on this list with that highlight. KISS on the other hand had been omitted from the list of nominees every year since they were first eligible back in ’99. Two of my oldest T-shirts (which I still own and regularly wear) have these two bands’ respective logos emblazoned on them and I couldn’t be more glad about this news. Now, to see who gets in.
