Hear ‘Exchange’ the Debut Project from Nico Segal’s New Band, The JuJu

posted by Oscar April 21, 2017

The Social Experiment’s Nico Segal (FKA Donnie Trumpet) has joined forces with Julian & Everett Reid and former Kids These Days bandmate Lane Beckstrom to form the new group The JuJu. As described on SoundCloud, “The JuJu is a musical partnership of childhood friends who came up through Chicago Public School music programs.”

The Jazz outfit created all the genre-bending music they’re offering on debut project Exchange, a 7-song album that features Nico’s SoX partner Nate Fox offering additional production while Jamila Woods lends her other-worldly vocals on “We Good.”

Check out the new album along with their live debut on Windy City Live below. Continue Reading

Stix Jam Pack 2

Check out the latest Jam Pack from one of Chicago’s best up-and-coming drummers, Stix. For those of you in the know, you might already be aware that Stix is a producer and the current drummer for Chance The Rapper, and he was the drummer for Kids These Days. This one was buried in my email but even though it may be a bit late, it’s worth sharing especially for those of you who visit our site and are into creating your own music and need some proper drums for your tracks.

The drum pack includes over 150 exclusive sonically vintage drum loops as well as an original song co-produced by Chris Barnett, which you can hear below. Buy the STIX Jam Pack Volume 2. Continue Reading

Video: Marrow – “Two”

posted by Oscar December 5, 2013

Marrow, the band that was formed by former Kids These Days members Liam Cunningham, Macie Stewart and Lane Beckstrom (plus Matt Carroll), has finally released their latest material. The song is called “Two” and it comes accompanied with a set of visuals directed/shot/edited by Austin Vesely. The music itself is fantastic. The short film is divided in two parts, the first featuring Liam on vocals playing a Wilco-esque track and a guitar + keys riff that instantly gets stuck in your head, the second being a little more somber and KTD-esque with Macie on vocals.

I have to say, I’m really enjoying the reincarnation of one of my favorite local bands and I can’t wait to see what they offer live.

*Special shout-out to Cindy at Piggly Wiggly.

Video: Marrow – TWO (Teaser)

posted by Oscar October 28, 2013

Earlier today newly-formed band Marrow released a teaser for their latest project, an EP suitably titled TWO. Marrow was formed by former Kids These Days members Liam Cunningham (guitar and vocals), Macie Stewart (keys and vocals) and Lane Beckstrom (bass), adding Matt Carroll on drums. While the young members of that Chicago band had reached an impressive level of success (performing at Lollapalooza 2011 and on Conan) and critical acclaim across all sorts of media (+ being genuine POD favorites) KTD broke up earlier this year, leaving us fans anxious to hear whatever it is the reincarnations of this band’s now former members would go on to release.

In the clip you see above, we get a behind the scenes look at the band convening in a basement to work and let their creativity flow. Knowing well enough what this group of musicians was able to do in their last band, I can’t help but be excited to hear what they have in store for us next.

The band will be having their first ever headlining show on December 19 at Schubas, the same day TWO is due out (digitally and on vinyl). Tix are $10 and it’s 18+, but all ages below 18 admitted if you come with a parent (and you’ll get a free Marrow t-shirt). Passerines and Lamp will also be on the bill.

Kids These Days Announce Breakup

posted by Oscar May 8, 2013

Kids These Days SXSW

While it’s exciting to hear the new solo work from Vic Mensa, it’s sad to learn that it’s bittersweet because it also marks the end of Kids These Days. The band had been on a great run in their career so far, having played SXSW, Lollapalooza, and Conan. Creative differences were cited in Vic Mensa’s announcement of the band’s breakup by way of an XXL interview.

The news is shocking, to say the least, and while the saying goes “all good things must come to an end,” we can’t help but feel that this breakup appears a bit untimely. Call us a bit selfish, but we would have liked to hear more from this up and coming Chicago band. Best of luck to all of the members of Kids These Days, we can’t wait to hear what you’ve all got in store for us next.
