Video: Karen O – “Singalong”

posted by Oscar August 20, 2015

Karen O revisits her 2014 solo debut, Crush Songs, and today she releases a video for “Singalong.” The visuals were directed by Asli Baykal, and in it we see a sort of “day in the life” look at New Yorkers shot through an old-timey filter that would make you think this was a repurposed video taken generations ago.

Karen O Wrote New Song “Oh, Nellie” for Google Doodle About Nellie Bly

posted by Oscar May 5, 2015

Google enlisted Yeah Yeah Yeahs frontwoman Karen O to provide the music for their latest “Google Doodle” honoring what would’ve been Nellie Bly’s 151st birthday.

Bly is perhaps most renowned for convincing the staff at a Women’s Lunatic Asylum that she was insane to expose their mistreatment of patients, as well as for traveling around the world in a then-record-breaking 72 days.

Karen O’s song is a pretty little acoustic tune that perfectly capture the spirit of Bly and her achievements. Check out the Google Doodle above.

Video: Karen O – “Ooo” Video (feat. Elle Fanning + Dir. Spike Jonze)

posted by Oscar September 12, 2014

Spike Jonze, arguably the best director in music video history, took the task of bringing to life Karen O’s “Ooo” and enlisted actress, Elle Fanning for the job. Shortly after the Yeah Yeah Yeah’s lead singer’s debut album release, this video was an impromptu affair in which Jonze and Fanning shot this while prepping a one-act play at NYC’s Metropolitan Opera House for Fashion Week.

The visuals focus on Elle making her from backstage and into the sacred floor of the Met, as she dances and smiles for the camera.

Video: Karen O – “Rapt”

posted by Oscar July 28, 2014

Earlier this year we wrote about how Yeah Yeah Yeahs lead singer, Karen O would be releasing her debut solo album this year on Cult Records. The album, titled Crush Songs, was written when she was 27 (now 35) when she would “crushed a lot” and she doubted if she’d ever fall in love again.

The first cut from that album is “Rapt,” which comes paired with a video in which you simply see the lead singer float underwater. This low-level of energy approach somehow still works to bring the message across to you, especially when you stare into her eyes and the song goes “love is soft, love’s a fucking bitch. Do I really need another habit like you? I really need. Do you need me too?” And of course it’s also beautifully-sung.

Crush Songs comes out Sept 9. LP, CD, download, t-shirt, pillowcase & bundle pre-orders available now on Cult Records: http://smarturl.it/karenoshop /iTunes pre-order goes live July 29th. See the lyrics below. Continue Reading
