The Voidz Share New Song “QYURRYUS” + Detail New Album, ‘Virtue’

posted by Oscar January 25, 2018

In early December 2017 Julian Casablancas shared the news that his band would drop his name and go simply as The Voidz, while also announcing that they would be releasing a new album.

Today the band have detailed the album, which is titled Virtue and will arrive on March 30 on RCA. The album is available for pre-order, which in turn revealed the official tracklist… Which slightly disappointed us since it doesn’t reflect the dope song names Casablancas tweeted yesterday like “Rambo,” “100,000 Creeps Watching my Fucking Face,” “Thelmo and Louis,””Jalapeño Angels.”

Along with those release details, JC and crew shared new song “QYURRYUS.” You can check that out below, via its music video. Continue Reading

Video: Julian Casablancas + The Voidz Perform Cover of Milli Vanilli’s “Girl You Know It’s True”

posted by Oscar October 26, 2015

Julian Casablancas + The Voidz played Beach Goth Festival this past weekend and during their set the band performed an unlikely cover of Milli Vanilla’s “Girl You Know It’s True.” The fuzzed-out rendition actually sounded pretty dope with the live instrumentation, reviving the track from its dated 80s sound.

That wasn’t the only cover of the weekend for Mr. Casablancas, who also hit the stage with The Growlers to do a rendition of The Doors’ “People Are Strange.” See that one below. Continue Reading

Julian Casablancas + The Voidz Cancel North American Fall Tour

posted by Oscar August 17, 2015

Julian Casablancas + The Voidz 2015 Tour Dates

Back in June this year Julian Casablancas announced that he and his band The Voidz would be hitting the road again for a Fall tour through North America. The band cited there were problems with their stage setup.

Read the band’s full statement below, and see the cancelled dates of The Immaculate Powerlords Tour after the jump.

“With great regret, we need to cancel our upcoming shows in North America.

We had set out to do something a bit different with these shows and create more of an experience that would be inspiring to our fans as well as to the band. In order to make this work we needed many pieces to fall into place that just didn’t.

Everyone will of course be given a full refund.

We are going to regroup and re-approach this in the way it was intended, and soon.

Video: Julian Casablancas + The Voidz – “Human Sadness”

posted by Oscar May 27, 2015

Julian Casablancas has finally shared the visuals for “Human Sadness,” his track with his other band The Voidz. The 13 minute-long Tyranny song’s post-apocalyptic video was put together with directors Warren Fu and Nicholaus Goossen, and Jules himself says it was inspired by the Titanic’s eight-member orchestra, who are said to have played until their deaths.

Casablancas told Rolling Stone:

“It just seemed like a fitting concept… The world’s gonna end and you decide to play music. That’s basically what happened on the Titanic and in a weird, dark, ‘sad’ way – forgive me – it’s kind of like life: dark. But you can look at life as ‘managing denial.'”

Video: Dev Hynes Joins Julian Casablancas + The Voidz to Perform “You Only Live Once”

posted by Oscar November 27, 2014

Last night saw the return of Julian Casablancas’ return to his hometown of New York to perform at the Hammerstein Ballroom with new band The Voidz. The opener that night was Dev Hynes (AKA Blood Orange) and while that lineup was cool enough, things only got better during the JC and The Voidz’s set as they brought out Hynes to perform The Strokes’ “You Only Live Once” together.

The result was a thing of beauty with the song having a bit of a warmer twist after peeling off the signature guitar riff and only playing it sparsely, making way for Hynes’ vocals. The other thing that made this collaboration so dope was how Julian Casablancas incorporated lyrics from the demo version of this song, “I’ll Try Anything Once,” into the chorus, trading lines with Hynes as he sang the “YOLO” lyrics.

See that above.

Recap: Julian Casablancas + The Voidz Live at The Vic

posted by Oscar November 19, 2014

JCandTheVoidz 4

Last night, Nov. 18, 2014, Julian Casablancas and his new band The Voidz came to Chicago as part of their Tyranny Tour, in support of the new album that gave the tour its namesake.

The setting was the iconic Vic Theatre, with Shabazz Palaces and Cult Records reps Cerebral Ballzy as openers. Cerebral Ballzy kicked off the show with their modern Punk sound that feels like a punch right in the face from the very first riff strummed to the last thumping of their drums. Shabazz Palaces were next up, bringing to the venue their weird, experimental Electronic/R&B/Hip Hop hybrid music. The vibe at The Vic really changed with their appearance, as their mesh of digital sounds with live instrumentation was a drastic change to the mosh-quality music C. Ballzy plays. Nonetheless, seeing two guys juggle between digital and analog instruments while blending these different genres together was interesting to see, plus their better tunes weren’t half bad.

When it was time for the main event, JC and The Voidz put on a show worthy of the 7-hour waits in line (as JC himself pointed out halfway through the show) that some fans endured to secure their spot in the front row. The set list was very much focused on the material by the new band, Casablancas performing with the kind of fury that first turned him into a Rock hero with The Strokes. Continue Reading
