Video: Father John Misty Covers John Lennon’s “God” Live at the Troubador

posted by Oscar December 24, 2015

While performing at the 4th Annual Merry Minstrel Musical Circus in Los Angeles, Father John Misty and the Jonathan Wilson Band performed a tremendous cover of John Lennon’s “God.” This rendition had some modified lyrics, during which Father John sang that he didn’t believe in everything from Obama, Facebook, smoothies, Uber, and Star Wars. Also included? Confetti and Christmas. Quite the list indeed.

Peep the chilling and amusing cover above.

The War On Drugs

The War On Drugs are quickly becoming one of the most talked about Indie bands around these days and for good reason. The Philly band recently played in our city’s (The) Metro and there they played a live cover of John Lennon’s beautiful song, “Mind Games,” which you can see thanks to fan Jessica B.’s video here. During a recent stop at New York’s famed Bowery Ballroom, a better, sound only clip of that performance was recorded and uploaded to SoundCloud.

Beck – “Love” (John Lennon Cover)

posted by Oscar January 5, 2014

Beck - Love

Beck has covered a classic John Lennon ballad for Starbucks’ Sweetheart 2014 compilation, due out this coming February 14. The song, “Love,” originally appeared on the former Beatle’s John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band album, and this cover keeps it simple and stays true to the original in a very good way.

The compilation album will also feature music from Vampire Weekend, The Head and the Heart, Fiona Apple, Jim James (My Morning Jacket), Sharon Jones and more.

Video: Jake Bugg – “Happy Xmas (War Is Over)” in the Christmas Live Lounge

posted by Oscar December 19, 2013

Jake Bugg took part in BBC Radio 1’s Christmas Live Lounge and performed a cover of the holiday classic, “Happy Xmas (War Is Over),” by fellow Englishman John Lennon. In the middle of playing “Happy Xmas,” Bugg included a verse from another song penned by the former Beatle, the very non-Christmas yet very powerful, “Working Class Hero.”

The performance altogether came out excellently and you can see that clip above.
