posted by Luis Hernandez December 28, 2016

Last week, I put out a list for my favorite hip-hop samples of the year. This week, I wanted to give R&B its shine, as this genre has had a solid 2016 overall. The best part of the genre now is that a lot of R&B songs are now incorporating old hits into current songs to rejuvenate the genre even further. Here are my top samples of R&B in 2016:

So, are we just going to ignore the fact that Big Sean and Jhene Aiko teamed up on a nothing short of amazing album? First and foremost, the duo has collaborated in the past which include the hit tracks “I Know” and “Win Some, Lose Some” off Sean’s prior album Dark Sky Paradise. So we’re already aware of how great they really are together… and now we have an 8-track album to showcase their continued eminence.

Childish Gambino, Jhené Aiko, Vince Staples & Ludwig Goransson – “Waiting for My Moment”

posted by Oscar November 20, 2015

Creed Soundtrack

Donald Glover/Childish Gambino, Jhené Aiko, Vince Staples & Ludwig Goransson have combined forces for new track “Waiting for My Moment.” The song is their contribution to the upcoming Rocky franchise sequel/spin-off, Creed. The song’s production is fittingly anthemic and inspirational, with horns and dueling harmonies from Jhené and Donald that seem to symbolize the triumphant entrance music you’d hear heading towards the ring, and the mood shifts for Staples’ part that sounds a lot like you’re in the thick of battle.

Creed hits theaters on Nov. 25 starring Michael B. Jordan and Sylvester Stallone. Peep the track below. Continue Reading

Video: Jhené Aiko Covers Bill Withers’ “Ain’t No Sunshine” and “Lovely Day”

posted by Oscar July 8, 2015

Jhené Aiko pays tribute to Bill Withers on his birthday by performing a medley of the iconic R&B singer’s hits. Jhené first tackles the classic “Ain’t No Sunshine” and does so majestically with only a guitar providing the accompaniment. The songstress follows it up with bright and beautiful rendition of “Lovely Day,” which doesn’t suffer too much from the lack of those signature backing vocals on the original, as her voice proves more than enough to make up for it.

Check it out above. You can hear a better mix of this recording below. Continue Reading

Today Childish Gambino delivered a new video for his song “Telegraph Ave. (‘Oakland’ by Lloyd),” off Because The Internet. After delivering a mixtape in STN MTN/KAUAI, it’s cool to still see something from BTI.

The video also features (the bae) Jhene Aiko, and the surprise ending is worth sticking around for.
