Album Stream: Chance The Rapper & Jeremih Share ‘Merry Christmas Lil Mama: Rewrapped’

posted by Oscar December 19, 2017

Hannibal Buress says it best on the intro to “Lil Bit (Interlude)”: “It’s another Christmas album from Chance The Rapper and Jeremih. I guess these muhfuckas must really love Christmas.

The Chicago artists came together once more to deliver 2017’s follow-up  to last year’s Christmas album. Merry Christmas Lil’ Mama: Rewrapped packs 10 tracks that also fit the holiday theme. My favorites upon first listening to MCLM2 include “Lil Bit,” “Held It Down,” “Big Kid Again,” and “Ms. Parker.” The whole festive project is worth playing as we count down to the 25th.

Jeremih and Chance gave their city the first shot to hear the project by premiering it live on Chicago’s Power 92 with Hot Rod last night.

The track list reveals we can expect to hear 16 tunes, while artists like Hannibal Buress, Travis Barker (Blink-182), HXLT, A-Trak, Syd (The Internet), and others feature on the album.

Recap: Redd’s Wicked Apple X AFROPUNK’s The Most Wicked Party (Chicago)

posted by Oscar June 5, 2015

Last night Redd’s Wicked Apple and AFROPUNK held the “The Most Wicked Party,” an event held in celebration of the mischievously awesome Redd’s Wicked Apple. The Chicago party; which is part of a larger Redd’s Wicked Apple and AFROPUNK program that also includes events in Atlanta, D.C., and LA; featured homegrown talent that’s making strides nationwide like stand up comedian and Broad City star Hannibal Buress along with G.O.O.D. music’s latest addition, Holt.

The party was lit of course thanks to AFROPUNK at the reins and with a Redd’s Wicked Apple in each guest’s hands (unless they got that Redd’s Wicked Mango, which was pretty legit). Those in attendance were not only to treated drinks and a show, but there was also a Hebru Brantley piece to admire along with a scavenger hunt that gave guests a chance to receive exclusive prizes.

On the performance front it was awesome getting to see the new incarnation of the artist formerly known as Hollywood Holt (now just Holt) and getting more justification as to why Yeezy’s label turned their sights on him. Hannibal Buress is one of our favorite comedians here at POD and while this was a weird gig for him, the short set still delivered some laughs. Danny Brown, well what else can we say about this man? The Detroit rapper’s concerts are like no other, with an explosive energy and Brown’s undeniable stage presence, and this performance was no different. It’s not without merit that we consistently write about this guy and that his last album landed on our 2013 list of the Dopest Albums of the Year, so his headlining performance was the crowning moment of the night.

See a clip of Danny Brown’s set above and hit the jump for some pictures of how the party went down. Continue Reading

Hannibal Buress Covers ‘The Fader’

posted by Oscar April 8, 2015

Hannibal Buress - The Fader

Chicago product and one of our favorite comedians, Hannibal Buress has landed the cover of The Fader. Following friend and fellow Chi artist Chance along with The Social Experiment on a Fader cover, the April/May issue cover story focuses on the comedian’s upbringing in the west side of Chicago, his early days in stand-up, and that now infamous Cosby joke.

One of the best parts is the recounting of a set in Denver where Hannibal exclaims after a woman repeatedly says he’s sexy:

“Women didn’t say shit like that before Broad City… I was just some dude talking shit in front of 600 people (I’m) not a good first fuck… My dick is like the Yeezus album, there’s different levels to this!”

Read the full story over at The FaderPre-order Hannibal Buress’ issue of The Fader now; it hits newsstands on May 12th.
