Video: James Corden Sings “All I Want For Christmas” with Mariah Carey, Chris Martin, Adele on Carpool Karaoke

posted by Oscar December 16, 2016

“All I Want For Christmas” is without a doubt, THE best Christmas song around… AND I’m ready to fight y’all in case you disagree! (Don’t mess with my Christmas spirit, homie)

So it was only right that James Corden called upon Mariah Carey herself to sing the classic holiday track for The Late Late Show‘s “Carpool Karaoke.” Their performance came with a twist, though, as it also featured a compilation of clips of artists that appeared on the segment also singing the song back when they appeared. Some of the featured artists including Adele, Lady Gaga, Chris Martin, Elton John, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Gwen Stefani, and Selena Gomez.

This isn’t replacing the original anytime soon, but it’s still fun af. Check it out above.

A Tribe Called Quest have released their sixth and final studio album together, We got it from Here… Thank You 4 Your service. The album has arrived months after founding member Phife Dawg, who passed away back in March of this year so this project honors his memory and ATCQ leader Q-Tip has even it referred to it as a “… in so many ways, it’s a legacy album, too” to show that it’s a celebration of Phife’s memory and the group’s history.

We got it from Here… Thank You 4 Your service brings together 16 tracks and it includes features from Kanye West, Jack White, Kendrick Lamar, Talib Kweli, Anderson .Paak, and more. All four of the group’s original members, including the late Phife Dawg, are featured on the album.

Astronauts Etc feat. Toro y Moi

Before hitting the road together for a North American tour, Astronauts Etc and Toro Y Moi collaborate for a cover of Elton John’s classic song “Rocket Man.” This version is very chill and extra groovy, and its vintage aesthetic makes it sound it like it could’ve just been an alternate from that era to the original we know today.

New Orleans Jazz Fest 2015 Lineup feat. Elton John, The Who, No Doubt

posted by Oscar January 12, 2015

Behold, the weirdest lineup of the festival circuit! The New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival has a tradition of putting together some of the most unrelated names in music to grace the same stages and this year the traditions remains alive with a lineup including Elton John, The Who, Tony Bennett with Lady Gaga, Jimmy Buffett, a reunited No Doubt, Pitbull (dale!), and John Legend. Some of the other acts we enjoy that are filling the bill this year are Wilco, Ed Sheeran, Ryan Adams, and Buddy Guy.

With this much variety there’s no way you can’t find a way to love something on this lineup and if given the chance, I’d love to find myself in the Crescent City between April 24 and May 3.

See the whole roster below; tickets go on sale tomorrow at 10 a.m. CST on Ticketmaster. Find more info at the Jazz Fest website.

Video: Pharrell, Dave Grohl, Stevie Wonder, Lorde + more Cover “God Only Knows”

posted by Oscar October 7, 2014

To help promote their newly launched BBC Music site, the British Broadcasting Corporation brought together some of the world’s biggest talents to record one of the world’s most beautiful songs (and a personal all-time favorite), The Beach Boys’ “God Only Knows.”

The ensemble cast for this one boasts stars from the 60’s and on, including Pharrell, Elton John, Lorde, Chris Martin (Coldplay), Florence Welch (Florence + The Machine), Stevie Wonder, Brian May (Queen), One Direction, Dave Grohl, Sam Smith and the mastermind behind the original, Beach Boys leader Brian Wilson.

The cover is not exactly that in a traditional sense, since each artist barely gets about a line to perform, but it doesn’t sound half bad. You can also check a behind-the-scenes look at the making of the clip here.

Miguel feat. Wale – “Bennie And The Jets” (Elton John Cover)

posted by Oscar March 21, 2014

To celebrate 40 year’s since the release of his Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, Elton John will be releasing a “Super Deluxe” version set for release next week that features a bonus disc of today’s artists covering his records. Today we get a cut from that bonus disco with Miguel and Wale’s cover of “Bennie and the Jets.” The beat is just a small alteration to the original, adding a heavier percussion and bass section with Miguel proving he’s got the chops to cover such an iconic track. For some reason his part keeps me thinking he sounds sort of like Thin Lizzy’s lead singer, Phil Lynott doing their “The Boys Are Back In Town.” Wale’s part in this on the other hand just doesn’t make any sense and it sort of taints an otherwise great cover.
