Lollapalooza 2017 Schedule (Set Conflicts!) Announced

posted by Oscar May 9, 2017

The most wonderful time of the year (summer festival season!) is pretty much upon us…. Which makes this build-up time to that, after receiving the schedule for Lollapalooza 2017, the most pseudo-torturous time of the year because now is the time during which we have to start planning our lives to maximize our experience at one of the most noteworthy festivals in the nation.

Below you’ll find the complete schedule for all dates (August 3-6), but allow us to break it down and highlight some of the more annoying time conflicts that will keep us second-guessing our decision(s) till pretty much showtime. Continue Reading

Blink-182 Release “Misery,” Off Deluxe Edition of ‘California’

posted by Oscar March 29, 2017

Blink-182 have shared another track from the forthcoming deluxe edition of California, titled “Misery.” The track follows up “Parking Lot,” and it’s been released as another lyric video.

This tune also follows that anthemic vibe, except now it’s focusing on more dire conditions including depression and heartache. Skiba delivering the chorus is particularly moving, and I can already imagine fists punching the air while their “misery loves company, I don’t need anyone.”

Check out the lyric video for “Misery” below. Continue Reading

Lollapalooza 2017 Lineup Features Chance The Rapper, Arcade Fire, Blink-182, Big Sean & more

posted by Oscar March 22, 2017

It’s heeeeeere!! The Lollapalooza lineup has arrived in the early, early hours of the morning (6am tho?!) and less than one day after 4-day passes sold out, we find out who’s playing Grant Park between August 3-6.

Chance all but confirmed his inclusion yesterday, but now we come to learn that young Chance The Rapper is actually the first name on this year’s lineup! Joining him to headline the storied festival are Arcade Fire, Muse, Blink-182, Cage The Elephant, Lorde, Run The Jewels, Alt-J, Big Sean, and The Shins.

But as with every year, it’s not just about the headliners!! Some of the other dope names that this year’s roster has to offer are other POD favorites like Migos, Spoon, Kaytranada, Ryan Adams, Phantogram, Mac DeMarco, Royal Blood, Highly Suspect, Aminé, Joey Bada$$, Charli XCX, Sampha, and Maggie Rogers.

Along with Chano, the Chicago presence on this lineup is also quite dope. This year we can catch acts that we fully endorse like Whitney, Noname, The O’My’s, Kweku Collins, and The Walters as the hometown highlights.

At the time of publication, you can still purchase single-day tickets on the Lollapalooza website.

See the lineup in the poster above or listed below. Continue Reading

Blink-182 Share “Parking Lot,” New Track From Deluxe Edition of ‘California’

posted by Oscar March 16, 2017

At the beginning of this month our favorite Pop-Punk band, blink-182 announced the May 19 release date for the deluxe edition of their excellent 2016 record, California. Today, the group has revealed one of the tracks that will appear on that supercharged album.

The track is titled “Parking Lot” and it comes paired with a lyric video. The song is filled with nostalgia about those early Punk days including seeing Naked Raygun at the Cabaret Metro here in Chicago (Skiba is a hometown boy) as well as hanging out and jamming to music by The Smiths and The Violent Femmes. Check out “Parking Lot” below. Continue Reading

Recap: Blink-182 Live at the Hollywood Casino Amphitheatre

posted by Oscar September 12, 2016

Last Friday, we were able to check out Blink-182 perform at the Hollywood Casino Amphitheatre out in Tinley Park, just outside Chicago. The veteran Pop-Punk band, now featuring Matt Skiba (Alkaline Trio) as their new guitarist, were headlining a bill that also included sets from DJ Spider, All-American Rejects, and A Day To Remember.

Travis Barker, Mark Hoppus, and Skiba were on tour promoting their new album California, which helped from making this a legacy concert simply featuring Skiba playing the Tom DeLonge part. Instead, the set list featured plenty of new material that fit in perfectly with the group’s “greatest hits.” Not only was the new music not out of place, but it was rather appreciated by the crowd filled with tattooed, spike-/dyed-haired fans.

Check out our gallery below

Overall hometown boy Skiba, sporting his customized Cubbies jersey, fit right in with the boys as he sang lead on all the DeLonge tracks. I will admit that seeing Blink with this new lineup was a bit distracting at times when your mind is expecting DeLonge’s distinctive voice to blare through the speakers and then you hear the new vocalist’s more tame vocals instead. But once you get past that mini mindfuck, the lead guitarist turning those song interpretations all his own was a rather good twist. Continue Reading

Top 10 Artists To See at Riot Fest ’13

posted by Oscar September 11, 2013

Riot Fest

If you ever paid attention to the name of the authors on P.O.D. you may have noticed by now that I’m “the Rock guy” around here and that should have made you expect me to write up a list of the top 10 acts you just can’t miss at Riot Fest (Chicago) ’13.  This is my third Riot Fest in a row, my first covered on this site (in our traditional fan-view way, of course), and I’m already planning for this to be another tradition of mine. We’re just days away from rocking Humboldt Park and without a single note yet to be played, the music festival and carnival is already looking like it may be one of the best they’ve ever organized.

Hit the jump for the Top 10 Artists to see at Riot Fest ’13. Continue Reading
