Video: Banks – “What You Need” (The Weeknd Cover) Live

posted by Oscar November 29, 2013

We first came to learn about the LA songstress Banks when she opened for The Weeknd at the Chicago Theatre earlier this year, so it only makes sense that our newest post on her shows her performing a cover of his. Banks was in the UK and performed a live rendition of The Weeknd’s “What You Need” for Zane Lowe on BBC Radio 1.

The result was a sultry R&B track that stands well on its own. See that above.

Video: Eminem’s Zane Lowe Interview [Complete]

posted by Oscar November 21, 2013

Earlier in the year we got a super informative interview from Kanye West when he crossed the pond to talk to Zane Lowe about his views on the current state of Hip Hop and his new album, Yeezus. Today we’re getting a bit more from the famous radio broadcaster who sat with Eminem, the latter talking to him about what’s new from the Detroit emcee.

Em’s attempt to top the Yeezy interview and the Ricky Bobby reference makes for a good start in this new series. Also, there’s some interesting stuff with Eminem talking about how he went about approaching this album, giving more details on some of the tracks, and working with Rick Rubin.

See part 1 of 4 above. See parts 2 through 4 below. Continue Reading

Video: HAIM cover Miley Cyrus’ “Wrecking Ball” in the Live Lounge

posted by Oscar September 25, 2013

BBC Radio 1’s Live Lounge is becoming notorious for band’s covers of songs by their contemporaries. Now, it’s one of the most talked-about new bands, HAIM, that went on the famous  show to play a song by one of the most talked-about artists in Pop music today. The sister trio performed a cover of Miley Cyrus’ “Wrecking Ball” and from the looks of it, it actually makes it sound better than the original thanks to it’s greater energy and faster tempo.

Video: Kings Of Leon – “Dancing On My Own” (Robyn Cover) Live on BBC Radio 1

posted by Oscar September 12, 2013

Kings Of Leon is out on a promotional tour to help spread the word about their upcoming album, Mechanical Bull, and a couple of days ago they made a stop at BBC Radio 1. While there the Southern boys played a cover of Robyn’s dance track “Dancing On My Own” and unveiled new tracks. The live rendition of the 80’s-like club song feels dark, emotional and powerful and deserves a view or two.

MS MR – “Do I Wanna Know?” (Arctic Monkeys Cover) on ‘Live Lounge Late’

posted by Oscar August 22, 2013

MS MR went on the Live Lounge Late for Phil and Alice on BBC Radio 1 and covered the Arctic Monkey’s “Do I Wanna Know?” I’ve silently been obsessing over this track (the same one Alex Wiley sampled on “Earfucked”) for a while now and after hearing it it sure feels like this live cover does it a bit of justice. MS MR’s version is noticeably more Pop but it still retains the gloom and slight darkness of the original.

Nine Inch Nails - nin - Everything

A new Nine Inch Nails song has surfaced just after Trent Reznor and company premiered the track on Zane Lowe’s BBC Radio 1 show… The Hesitation Marks track is called “Everything” and it’s got a much faster tempo over their previous release (“Copy Of A”), with a more traditional, rocking sound that brings to mind 90’s records.

Video: Queens Of The Stone Age – “Blurred Lines” (Live Lounge) [Robin Thicke Cover]

posted by Oscar June 12, 2013

There are two things that are fact. Robin Thicke’s “Blurred Lines” is awesome and incredibly catchy, and QOTSA kicks ass (number 1 album, son!). A few days ago, Josh Homme and the rest of the guys from Queens Of The Songs Age played a live cover of Thicke’s hit single on BBC Radio 1’s Live Lounge with Sara Cox. The “unplugged” version also included a little “rap” verse in the middle to bring their cover full circle.
