See Queens Of The Stone Age Play “The Way You Used To Do” and Cover Marty Wilde’s “Bad Boy” on Piano

posted by Oscar October 24, 2017

Queens Of The Stone Age is the latest act to hit BBC Radio 1’s Piano Sessions series to play a couple of tunes. QOTSA performed a stripped-down, swinging rendition of their Villains lead single “The Way You Used To Do,” along with a cover of a Marty Wilde track.

The performance of their own track shines a completely different light, with the piano changing pretty much everything except the vocals. Josh Homme and crew played it with more of a sinister appeal and it sounds so damn smooth and cool; if they’d ever want to play local Jazz clubs, they’d kill it with this version of “The Way You Used To Do.”

See their cover of the British Rock & Roll icon’s “Bad Boy” below. Continue Reading

Video: Circa Waves Cover Ellie Goulding’s “Love Me Like You Do”

posted by Oscar April 2, 2015

Here’s as perfect of a cover as I’ve ever seen on the BBC Radio 1 Live Lounge. The band Circa Waves were the next ones up to take the challenge and the result is a campy, Garage Rock rendition of Ellie Goulding’s “Love Me Like You Do.” Honestly, it’s spectacular like this and I can almost convince myself that this is the way that it’s supposed to sound like all along.

Video: CHVRCHES – “Cry Me A River” (Justin Timberlake Cover) for the BBC Radio 1 ‘Live Lounge’

posted by Oscar February 19, 2015

CHVRCHES returned to BBC Radio 1’s Live Lounge to do another cover and this time the Scottish band tackled Justin Timberlake’s “Cry Me A River.” The Electronic spin is everything you’d want a JT cover by CHVRCHES to be.

Video: Royal Blood Cover The Police’s “Roxanne” for the BBC Radio 1 ‘Live Lounge’

posted by Oscar February 18, 2015

Royal Blood hit up BBC Radio 1’s Live Lounge and for their live cover they choose to play The Police’s iconic song “Roxanne.” This was a typical Royal Blood affair with big riffs heavy on the distortion and thunderous drums. It’s not the Reggae-y song you might be used to, but that’s part of the charm.

Video: Banks – “What You Need” (The Weeknd Cover) Live

posted by Oscar November 29, 2013

We first came to learn about the LA songstress Banks when she opened for The Weeknd at the Chicago Theatre earlier this year, so it only makes sense that our newest post on her shows her performing a cover of his. Banks was in the UK and performed a live rendition of The Weeknd’s “What You Need” for Zane Lowe on BBC Radio 1.

The result was a sultry R&B track that stands well on its own. See that above.

Video: Eminem – “Stan” Live For BBC Radio 1

posted by Oscar November 22, 2013

While in the UK Eminem met up with radio personality Zane Lowe for an in-depth interview talking largely about his latest effort, The Marshall Mathers LP 2. Since he was already at the BBC Radio 1 studios, Em took advantage of that and performed some tracks. The first was “Berzerk,” which went live earlier this week, and today we get a real classic from the Detroit native, “Stan.” This rendition gave more importance to the guitar riff and sounds a lot less dark and menacing than the studio version.

Still, the performance was good. Check it out above.

Video: Eminem’s Zane Lowe Interview [Complete]

posted by Oscar November 21, 2013

Earlier in the year we got a super informative interview from Kanye West when he crossed the pond to talk to Zane Lowe about his views on the current state of Hip Hop and his new album, Yeezus. Today we’re getting a bit more from the famous radio broadcaster who sat with Eminem, the latter talking to him about what’s new from the Detroit emcee.

Em’s attempt to top the Yeezy interview and the Ricky Bobby reference makes for a good start in this new series. Also, there’s some interesting stuff with Eminem talking about how he went about approaching this album, giving more details on some of the tracks, and working with Rick Rubin.

See part 1 of 4 above. See parts 2 through 4 below. Continue Reading
