Arctic Monkeys Live at Lollapalooza 2014

posted by Oscar August 2, 2014

Is there any band in the world bigger than Arctic Monkeys these days? Most likely not. So there was no doubt in my mind about who to see close out Day 1 at Lollapalooza this year when I saw the Brits headlining along with Hip Hop legend, Eminem. My respects to Em, but with the release of AM, Arctic Monkeys have a whole new live set with new songs that weren’t heard live in previous appearances so this performance was very, very different from their 2011 Lolla show and it was a can’t miss for long-time and new fans alike.

The band opened with “Do I Wanna Know?” (above) and the crowd was instantly under Alex Turner’s spell for the remaining hour and a half of their set. The set list was heavy on AM with tracks like “Arabella,” ” plus classics like “I Bet That You Look Good On The Dance Floor,” “Fluorescent Adolescent,” and “505.” See “Why’d You Only Call Me When You’re High?” below. Dopest Albums of 2013

Pursuit-of-Dopeness-LOGO.jpeg

Continuing with our year-end lists, the second compilation we tackled focused on our favorite albums of the year. Instead of considering all full-length releases, we’ve separated albums and mixtapes into two different categories  so this list will focus on the more traditionally-inclined records and next week we’ll be announcing our list of favorite mixtapes. Some of our favorite releases include the return of Arcade Fire and the most anticipated record of the year, Kanye’s Yeezus. Again, this consists of our Top 12 releases but it is not a ranked list.

Album Review: Arctic Monkeys – ‘AM’

posted by Oscar September 8, 2013

Arctic Monkeys - AM

The Arctic Monkeys’ first album, Whatever People Say I am, That’s What I’m Not, is pure 2kRock awesomeness and it made them one of my favorite modern bands. Now “the Monkeys” are releasing their 5th studio album, AM, and it’s sounding like a proper new effort. In interviews prior to this release, lead singer Alex Turner revealed that the new album was inspired by Black Sabbath and Dr. Dre. At first glance, it’s easy to notice the influence of the Godfathers of Metal, but Dre’s signature sound is a tad bit more difficult to hear. Overall, AM, delivers a great package that reminds us that Rock is not completely dead. Continue Reading

Arctic Monkeys - AM

The Arctic Monkeys have made their latest album, AM, available for streaming a week before the official release. As has become customary for most advanced streams, iTunes is giving fans the chance to listen to album.

According to the band, AM was influenced by Hip Hop (namely Dr Dre) and Black Sabbath and tracks like “Do I Wanna Know?” “R U Mine?” were released earlier in the year.

Arctic Monkeys – “I Want It All”

posted by Oscar September 2, 2013

Another Arctic Monkeys track has been unveiled. The UK band premiered “I Want It All” on XFM earlier today (September 2). The new song will appear on AM, which is set for release on September 9.

This one’s got a bit more of a classic Punk essence to it that seemingly fits well with some of the previous releases from the band’s 5th studio release. Hear it above.

Video: Arctic Monkeys – “Why’d You Only Call Me When You’re High?”

posted by Oscar August 11, 2013

Arctic Monkeys have released their latest video for their track “Why’d You Only Call Me When You’re High?…”

The video is NSFW-ish but it’s dope/worth-watching  for other reasons beyond that. The visuals consist of a night, around 3AM, when Monkeys lead singer Alex Turner gets all liquored up and tries to get together with his love interest. The track itself sounds great and is yet another classic story-teller from the Arctic Monkeys.

Arctic Monkeys – “2013” (“Do I Wanna Know?” B-Side)

posted by Oscar July 18, 2013

The B-Side to the Arctic Monkey’s “Do I Wanna Know?” has surfaced online, and it’s sounding pretty cool. The track is called “2013” and it’s got a pretty groovy, Classic Rock feel to it.

Since this is a B-Side to a single it’s likely it won’t be featured on AM (due out on Sept. 10 on Domino), so if this sounds like something cut from the full release, I can only imagine what’s in store from the new album.
