Jimmy Fallon’s debut week as the new host of The Tonight Show had another star-filled night on Thursday when it featured First Lady Michelle Obama and comic genius Will Ferrell. The musical guests for the night were the artsy Arcade Fire, who played a great rendition of their Reflektor track, “Afterlife.”

2013 has been a good one for us and we’ve decided to close out the year a little differently from now on… We’ve compiled our lists of the dopest things that came out these last 12 months and we’re sharing with you all what we liked the most in 2013, including lists for the best albums and our favorite live shows we attended. We’re not ranking these things, this is just a simple compilation of what we like the most and because we were founded in 2012, “12” is now our go-to number and limit for these lists.

We’re starting with our favorite videos of ’13; find those by hitting the jump.

Video: Arcade Fire – “Afterlife” Live on ‘The Graham Norton Show’

posted by Oscar November 30, 2013

Arcade Fire are making the rounds over in the “Old World”  which included a stop at The Graham Norton Show. The band played the song “Afterlife” and that performance was captured beautifully in a way that makes it look like it’d fit perfectly in a concert film. Plus Win Butler’s make him look like a Ninja Turtle, which is also awesome.

Video: Arcade Fire – “Afterlife”

posted by Oscar November 21, 2013

Arcade Fire, working with The Creators Project (Intel & Vice collabo.), have released their video for their song “Afterlife.” Written and directed by Emily Kai Bock the visuals feature a bit of a cinematic finish to it, telling the story of a Latin, single father family dealing with their loneliness. The song provides a perfect score for the scenes showing each character’s thoughts and dreams of being somewhere else.

It’s a beautiful video, to say the least. See it above.

Montreal’s Arcade Fire are continuing their promotional run for their latest album, Reflektor, and today we see their latest TV performance… The band was on the German show called Circus Halligalli (which I think is a cool name, but then again I don’t speak/read German) and performed their track “Afterlife.”

Album Review: Arcade Fire – ‘Reflektor’

Arcade Fire- Reflektor-album-art

Let me start out by saying that this is one of the best albums of the year. Simple as that.

All the hype surrounding Reflektor prior to its release focused on it being an album chock-full of “danceable” tracks that would make Arcade Fire better suited for a club filled with disco balls and mini skirts rather than denim-clad, band T-shirt-wearing fans. It’s not. Instead, it’s a collection of artful tracks that take elements from genres like Disco, Caribbean music and even Hip Hop to help make the double LP a new “classic.” Continue Reading

Video: Arcade Fire Perform on ‘SNL’ + NBC Concert Special

posted by Oscar September 29, 2013

Indie Rock stars Arcade Fire have once again graced the stage of SNL to perform some tracks from their forthcoming album, Reflektor. The Canadian band, aside from appearing in a sketch poking fun at their hipster sense of style, performed the new album’s title track and debuted the song “Afterlife” (shown above).

The band’s SNL set immediately gave way for a concert special, Here Comes The Night Time, with guest appearances from artists like Ben Stiller, Bono, Aziz Ansari, Bill Heder, Zack Galifianakis and others that were on hand for some comic release. The new material sounds very promising and the concert film proved a triumphant return from the band.

See the band perform “Reflektor” below on SNL and the concert special below. Continue Reading
