The weekend is pretty much here. As always, there is always something to do or see in the city. We’ve made the planning easy for you and included some of our picks to be at for the weekend. Take a look below, I’m sure you’ll catch us at some of these!

Los Campesinos! – 3/2 @ The Metro: No, Los Campesinos is not Mexican Regional Band. Los Campesinos! are actually an Indie band from Wales and they’ll be performing at The Metro. Buy your tickets here!

Kevin Abstract – 3/3 @ Subterranean: Make sure you’re posted up at Sub-T on Friday night as Kevin Abstract will be in town. Purchase tickets now, because we’re sure this show will be sold out!

Heavyweight Soul – 3/3 @ The Whistler: Maybe you’re just trying to have some drinks and vibe to some dope tracks this weekend. If that’s so, head over to The Whistler on Friday and catch DJ Mr. Jaytoo playing nothing but soul, funk, and disco vibes.

Ibn Inglor – 3/4 @ Chop Shop: Ibn Inglor is back and we couldn’t be any more excited. Check out his live set at the Chop Shop on Saturday.

Quiet Clubbing – 3/4 @ 19 East: You can’t go wrong with a good silent party. It’s even better when there is good music involved. King Marie, Manny Muscles, Evie The Cool, Boathouse, DJ Izzy E and many more will all be taking care of the different channels, so make sure you’re there!

Rapflix w/ Freddy Phatz @ Harbee Liquors: Enjoy the vibes from Freddy Phatz while watching the videos to everything that he plays. Sundays really are better at Harbee Liquors!

#TheDopeness: Things To Do This Weekend (2/23-2/26)

posted by Alex February 22, 2017

The weekend’s almost here and it’s time to make plans. Let us help you make those plans a little easier. With so much going on in the city every week, here are a handful of events that you may want to consider attending. If you got an event worth going to, @ me bruh!

Dally Auston – 2/23 @ Chop Shop: You really need to be at Chop Shop on Thursday night. Dally Auston will be blessing the stage along with a bunch of his homies. If you do one thing at all this weekend, make sure it’s going to this show. #SaveMoney #WSGTM

Stefan Ponce & Friends – 2/24 @ East Room: Stefan Ponce. East Room. Do I really have to say anything else aside from, get there nice and early? I don’t think so. You’re welcome.

Savoy – 2/25 @ Chop Shop: We’ve featured Savoy and their latest project called Tomorrow Today, Pt. 1. If you copped a ticket on time, you’re definitely in for a good show.

The Dream – 2/25 @ The Metro: Maybe you messed up on Valentine’s day and didn’t send that special person flowers or candy to the job. Or maybe the sidepiece doesn’t feel enough love from you. Whatever the case may be, The Dream at The Metro can certainly fix those feelings. Don’t play ya’self again, tickets are still available!

Another House Party – 2/25 @ Beauty Bar: Bring your 90’s gear and best “running man” skills to Beauty Bar on Saturday. You won’t regret it!

Stix Presents Jam Night – 2/26 @ Schuba’s: The awesome thing about this monthly party is that you’ll never know who comes out. Last month Chance made an appearance. Maybe two months in a row? Only way to find out is by heading over to Schuba’s. Tickets are here.

Heavy Hitter DJ Nonstop X Hennessy Privilege Toast

posted by Alex December 28, 2015

What more can be said about Mario “DJ Nonstop” Nieves? The man has traveled all around the world doing what he loves to do while at the same time inspiring the younger generations. DJ Nonstop spins at Chicago radio station, WGCI and is also DMX’s official DJ. This man has also been member of the group, K-7. Yeah that’s right, I know your head is currently playing “Come Baby Come”. On top of all that, DJ Nonstop represents one of the most renowned DJ groups, The Heavy Hitters. A man like that deserves to be honored. On Saturday afternoon, Hennessy did just that and we were fortunate to be present. What better place to have a #PrivilegeToast than at Chicago’s own Nacional 27? DJ Nonstop and his guests enjoyed Hennessy Privilege cocktails such as the Hennessy Privilege Passion Fruit , Hennessy Privilege Mango, and Hennessy Privilege Mojito while an amazing selection of food was served by Nacional 27’s talented staff. We would definitely recommend the Hennessy Privilege  Mango drink. A toast to recently deceased, DJ Timbuck2 was made by fellow friend and colleague, DJ Nonstop while reminding everyone to celebrate life while we can. Check out the pictures below and see if you can spot some of your favorite DJs. Special thanks to Ruben and Hennessy as always for the invite.

Recap: Redd’s Wicked Apple X AFROPUNK’s The Most Wicked Party (Chicago)

posted by Oscar June 5, 2015

Last night Redd’s Wicked Apple and AFROPUNK held the “The Most Wicked Party,” an event held in celebration of the mischievously awesome Redd’s Wicked Apple. The Chicago party; which is part of a larger Redd’s Wicked Apple and AFROPUNK program that also includes events in Atlanta, D.C., and LA; featured homegrown talent that’s making strides nationwide like stand up comedian and Broad City star Hannibal Buress along with G.O.O.D. music’s latest addition, Holt.

The party was lit of course thanks to AFROPUNK at the reins and with a Redd’s Wicked Apple in each guest’s hands (unless they got that Redd’s Wicked Mango, which was pretty legit). Those in attendance were not only to treated drinks and a show, but there was also a Hebru Brantley piece to admire along with a scavenger hunt that gave guests a chance to receive exclusive prizes.

On the performance front it was awesome getting to see the new incarnation of the artist formerly known as Hollywood Holt (now just Holt) and getting more justification as to why Yeezy’s label turned their sights on him. Hannibal Buress is one of our favorite comedians here at POD and while this was a weird gig for him, the short set still delivered some laughs. Danny Brown, well what else can we say about this man? The Detroit rapper’s concerts are like no other, with an explosive energy and Brown’s undeniable stage presence, and this performance was no different. It’s not without merit that we consistently write about this guy and that his last album landed on our 2013 list of the Dopest Albums of the Year, so his headlining performance was the crowning moment of the night.

See a clip of Danny Brown’s set above and hit the jump for some pictures of how the party went down. Continue Reading
