POD Recap: Justin Timberlake at United Center (3/27)

Justin Timberlake just wrapped up two packed-house shows at the legendary United Center with some help from opening act, The Shadowboxers. We were in attendance this past Tuesday to take in the performance by the Pop icon and it was one hell of an experience. Accompanied by The Tennessee Kids, Timberlake performed for about two hours with songs from all his solo albums including his most recent release, Man of The Woods.

During an in-depth interview with Zane Lowe this past January, Timberlake revealed that he wanted to bring the outdoors to life inside stadiums across the country for his new tour. He accomplished just that by having faux trees lined up along his stage walkway that cut through the middle of the GA section. Along with the trees, the drop-down projector screens had a live-feed featuring some outdoor elements that helped bring his vision to life. Towards the middle of his set, Timberlake even had a fire pit set up at end of the stage while he performed covers of “Ex-Factor” by Lauryn Hill and “Come Together” by The Beatles along with his backup vocalists.

This was my first time seeing Timberlake perform live and this Man of The Woods Tour show wound up living up to the expectations, and it is one that I would recommend to check out whether you’re a die hard or casual fan. There was obviously a focus on the new album, but he managed to effortlessly sprinkle in his past hits. My favorite performances from the new album had to be “Montana” and “Supplies.” From his past material, “Mirrors” seemed to get the best reaction despite being thrown in the middle of his set and not saved to close out the concert as I would have imagined.

Timberlake has a slew of US Dates left and if you’re still contemplating where to sit in the arena near you, pick up some GA, aka Party Pit tickets. Where else will you get to order drinks throughout the show and have one of the biggest Pop stars perform in front of you for nearly half the show? He may even jump in the section and/or on top of the bars to perform like he did at Tuesday night’s show. That is worth the price of a GA admission right there.
