Video: The Orwells – “Black Francis”

Our boys The Orwells have shared their new visuals for a newly unveiled track, “Black Francis.” The song will appear Terrible Human Beings, out February 17th on Canvasback Music.

Speaking about its conception, Guitarist Matt O’Keefe calls the song “an ode to one of our main men,” referring to The Pixies Frank Black, aka Black Francis.  “Felt long overdue that we paid him some direct respect. We’ve been ripping him off for years, hopefully this chips away at the massive debt we’ve got to him.”

The music video was directed by Matt’s brother, Eddie O’Keefe. In a press release, Eddie says the goal was to”channel a sort of nineties hip-hop energy; something that could compliment the track’s Beastie Boys-like cadence. In an effort to achieve that feeling, we drew inspiration from Spike Lee, using the opening-title dance sequence from Do The Right Thing and his infamous floating subject shots as the foundation of our shoot.” See it above.

The band is also announcing an in-store at Rough Trade in Brooklyn on Terrible Human Being‘s release date, February 17th. Fans who buy the record at the store that day will gain free admittance to the show. Additionally, they were just announced for the Bonnaroo and Governors Island Music Festival.
