Album Review: Skizzy Mars – “Alone Together”

skizzy

So just recently in the Fall, a friend of mine put me on to Skizzy Mars, and his tone and flow are what really pulled me in. The way he changes the pitch of his voice makes him that much different from the typical rapper style and I’m definitely a sucker for good beats and unique sound.

A couple songs on his last project, The Red Balloon, really appealed to me, so when I got word that he just recently dropped his debut album, Alone Together,  I had to go listen. After listening to the first couple songs, I could already sense that he stayed true to his own style of rapping. The entire project flowed well, and I think I can officially call myself a Skizzy fan. He has multiple features including Jojo, Jaymes Young, Olivver the Kid, & more names that you probably haven’t heard of but talented beings nonetheless. He also has the NOLA rapper, Pell, on two tracks which is another artist on the rise that you should give a listen to as well.

The contradicting title, Alone together, only made me want to listen to it even more in all honesty so, I highly recommend to give this album a couple listens. My favorite tracks would have to be Give up on me and Crash.

Skizzy Mars’ truly remarkable flow separates him from what you’re probably used to, but something new is usually just what we need from time to time.
